“Original Perfect Shaped 1975 Kirk” or MDK

Hi, can someone please help me understand this post. It’s genuinely boggling my mind, as the title says it’s one or the other one Nag is doing, why can’t he just do both of them or better yet why can’t he just release a single mask that is literally an exact replica or 3D scan whatever you want to call it of a 1975 Kirk. Better yet what’s the point of owning masks like the 98 proto or the SC75 that are already supposedly 1 on 1 to a original Kirk mask when he just keeps releasing more and more that are supposed to be exact to a 75 Kirk. This market is pretty oversaturated I’m tired of new releases and ground up sculpts genuinely why pay so much money for a mask that is going to be inferior when another supposed 1975 Kirk replica or 3D scan pops up out of thin air?

A tale as old as time, especially with this particular artist.

I wouldn’t put much stock into what Nikos claims will be the “most accurate” sculpt to date. It will never end with him and others, and it’s aimed to make you feel exactly the way you’re feeling, so that you’re never content and are chasing the next mask he’ll offer.

Ultimately, just collect what you like and what you deem “accurate”, and don’t worry about the next commodity. You’ll be forever chasing the dragon, if you don’t put this into perspective. He’s a salesman after all, and he makes a living doing this. He wants you chasing whatever he is offering.

All Nik does is copy other peoples work and tweaks his 98 proto, we already peaked with the I.D for the Castle stretch and the best mask sculpt that uses the Lifecast is done by PH, who has made a mask that pulls off the unworn, Castle and Warlock stretch

That’s pretty bold there’s many good lifecast sculpts out there. No need to claim anything is the best. It’s all subjective

The 98 protos are not the best and die hard nerds know this. The history is the selling point for many, myself included. It is a direct Kirk casting, but it’s not THE Kirk. The hero was unique and I don’t think any mask nailed it, I think the NAG H78 retool was one of the best/closest masks. But again, it’s all subjective.

You made me laugh with the “chasing the dragon” lol reminded me of that south park episode with the guy using the needle trying to catch the dragon. But yeah it’s frustrating with how many times the claim has been thrown around for this mask and that mask, I almost laughed when he showed the “Castro” mask. I think he’d make more money and respect if he just set the record straight “hey look this mask is accurate this one isn’t yadyada” I personally own a JC Prime 75 and it’s beautiful especially when you pull the mouth down from inside the mask really shows that castle stretch. I think it’s a pretty underrated mask especially since SEAN CLARK literally has a video comparing an ORIGINAL 75 KIRK to the replica and it’s spot on basically, that’s what sold me the mask and made me believe you can’t get better than that unless someone takes a literal mold/cast of an OG Kirk which I don’t think anyone would take that risk.

Because it’s all about milking the community of their cash $$$.Everyone is wanting a piece of the cake

People have already molded 75 Kirk, the nightmare is a recast of a REAL kirk.

The medley has the face and ears of a real Kirk as well.

The 98 Proto is a direct cast of a 75k as well.

So. Many. Masks.

Most of us, myself included, are overwhelmed and put off by trying to learn the history of each offering. It feels like too much.

There are some old threads that are helpful, but finding those is a job in and of itself. The charts Ghost put together are super helpful, but those aren’t easy to find either and are limited to tracing lineage.

We need a Master List of Myers Masks that’s pinned somewhere that gets updated a couple times a year.

I don’t have the knowledge to put one together on my own. We would need folks from all eras of mm.net to contribute.

The OGs know stuff many of us newer guys don’t. A lot of the new guys will have the scoop on stuff that’s not on the OG’s radar. Additionally, we need some Extra-OGs (think Billy) who have been around this stuff since before mm.net.

It sounds ridiculous, but we would ACTUALLY need a full-fledged task force assigned to eras of mask history to create a comprehensive list of all the masks that have been offered and provide a snippet of history on each offering. No joke. That’s not just bonkers, that right there is part of what makes the hobby feel gross. The capitalistic undercurrent that drives the hobby is undeniable.

I’m not complaining, by the way. I love seeing people put out new stuff. It’s just overwhelming.

I 100% agree with this, we really do need a master list of every mask created and the history behind each one, just like the forum that list every clothing item and weapon used for each movie. It is very overwhelming and it makes the hobby confusing for newer people and I’ve been in here for like 4-5 years now it’s still confusing sometimes. It is a hassle looking through old forums especially since most of the time the photos posted no longer even load up. I like seeing people put new stuff in the community also but to me it all seems almost pointless in a way when you have masks that are accurate as you can get.

I could put one together, with the best masks made and where they come from. If you have suggestions, everybody comment which masks they want to see on the list.

Well to make it simple we can get big names out the way, I’m sure there’s been plenty of small individuals making their own mask for over 20-30 years now. We can start off with every Nag, spookhouse props, Sean Clark, Sinister studios, Cemetery Gate Productions, WMP, Nightowl, just some I could think of top of my head, I’m sure it’s going to be pretty challenging or maybe even impossible to list every individual who’s created masks.

That’s exactly the right place to start.

Dividing the list into tiers would go a long way in making it manageable.

Perhaps something like this:

Tier 1: The Big Names (actual companies, many of which Gramps listed)

Tier 2: Indie Artists (folks who put out popular offerings but don’t represent a company… i.e., James Mangrum’s ID, Nils’ Starman, etc.)

Tier 3: Truly Underground Artists (offerings that came and went quickly and sort of flew under the radar)

Tiers 1 & 2 would supply the bulk of the list. Tier 3 would be a continous effort that would slowly grow. We would require people to submit information on masks that need to be added. There are simply too many to track. We would HAVE to lean on the community to help identify and catalog these masks.

Something like that might be workable.

I would personally love to know what all sculpts specifically come from the billy kirkus kirk, like the shat, nmm78, psycho, nightmare, etc.

Our friend, TheGhostlyShape, made this chart and a few others. They can be found on his website, HorrorCostumeIndex.com

Yes that’s the most important part In my opinion is the history of the mask not just how it looks, I do agree with Underwaterwreck. The only problem I have with those lineage charts Hedge is they don’t explain what’s different/what’s changed. Like example what is different from a Billy Kirkus Kirk to a ToTs H4? If the Billy kirkus kirk is a direct cast off a 75 why did multiple people change and mess with the sculpt?

Yep. I agree. The history and nuance of each mask is crucial information. Another example, in addition to yours, are NAG’s masks. He has so many offerings now that unless you were around while he was advertising them as new product, it’s nearly impossible to decipher the differences between each mask. Many of them seem… the same?

Again, a key piece of the list needs to be the nuance of each mask.

does anyone know the lineage behind the ultimate nightmare, is it a ground up sculpt and if not does it come from 98 proto or what?

It’s just a retooled 98 proto, all his masks, except his H6 and the NDMM, are the 98 proto, he did a ground up 3 hour sculpt and you can tell it was rushed in 3 hours
