I believe so as well. At least we can hope!

Maybe Dennis Breckstrom had the thickness right with his DB2 and where did he work. MMMM It is one of the best ever made in my opinion.

It was a massed produced mask I’m sure it wasn’t all that thick. It would no thicker than what an original spock mask would have been.

The mass produced elrods etc are thicker than my H1SM. Seems indies are thinner

I wouldn’t say that with universal certainty. My Tramer is actually thinner than my Psycho and my TOTS Bloodtears is thinner than my Darren Perks 99. Though, I will say my TOTS Kirk is thicker than my Creep.

That’s the point- if it was in fact a mass produced mask it would be thin like the rest of em’, but if it was custom by DPS it would have been thicker. This is also the case with the Medley Kirk. It was a call in order, I believe, and it was thicker than a normal one.

I think indie masks tend to be thinner because we’ve always assumed that the Hero was a thin, mass produced mask. This all may change now.

If hero was made by dps it seems they used flimsy paint for it to come off easy. The old thought was that it rubbed off because of the poor paint used by TLW. Maybe they just used thin coats?? Or the paint rubbing off is just actually dirt and grime??

I’ll post a pic of my original ‘75 Spock when I get home and display the thickness of the pull, If that helps. From my memory it is a medium thick pull & not as thin as most think.

no, its fleshtone. shown from the paint wearing off that tlw used
i think you guys are overcomplicating things

I don’t think anyone is over complicating anything. I think we’re trying to solve the mystery and looking at it from all different angles

Moran used the stunt mask for the de-masking scene

I get the mystery if it was repainted or not. No problem trying to figure that out.
but I think its silly to think all these years TLW has been lying about being the one who converted the hero and stunts, its a simple story and I see no reason to be against it, you clearly see flesh tones throughout and more so at the end of the film from the poorly used paint that was used. In my book any other theories that deny that is just trying to make it more complicated than it actually is.

Don Post Studios original 1975 Mr. Spock

Hope these pics help with the thickness comparison to the hero Kirk.

Here is my “thicker” shat blank.

^^^This^^^

Huh. That Spock looks pretty thick. Wonder if the Kirks were that thick too.

I agree 100% with you :myers:

TLW never lied about the masks.
He stated awhile back he had to adjust the features on the later ones that were sent from DPS.These copies had brows and sideburns.
His final word was the one that ended up the best of the three was used as the primary Hero

Thanks K!

So interesting to read all of this. So basically the Kirks that were modified at Don Post studios looked like the “Malone Myers” which were sent back to the set… one of which Bill Malone kept personally.

The other 2 masks … Tommy must have modified them even further to match his first attempt which would be stunt mask #1 if I’m correct…

I say stunt mask #1 because the eyebrows on #1 do not have any eyebrow hair left on it or darker shading.

Stunt mask #2 had a colored in type of look which can be scene where TONY MORRRON was unveiled LOL it could have been left over paint from the DPS KIRKS that had sprayed eyebrow hair left on them which is seen in this pic…

So in conclusion…

DON POST STUDIOS supplied two more Kirks that were modified slightly further once back on set by Tommy…which were stunt mask #2 and the Hero. Stunt #1 was Tommy’s lightning in a bottle mask to spark the characters entire demented look.

lol you guys lost me
