Great pics, Hudsons_skull I agree with you on the lighting I was playing with lighting the other night with my elrod and other masks really nice pictures there.
Hot damn that’s a nice looking elrod you’ve done up! What did you do to put the glue lines? I’ve been wanting to put some on mine, but i’m unsure about what glue to use and whatnot. Also, I LOVE the eye cuts some of you guys have been doing to your elrods; I’m afraid to go at mine, and I’m not really sure what tools to use in order to get them just right.
I started to use a hot glue gun to make the glue lines but it ended up being to messy so I took some clear liquid latex and painted it on using a small paintbrush…
As for the eye cuts, I used the sharpest pair of scissors I could find and gently cut just enough to remove the black around the eyes…
Heres just a couple photos of just the mask and wearing it. Its 3am but I just wanted to show what I have haha, still in the process of goofying around with weathering the face and playing with the hair and what gels would work better to hold it there. Just using a paste at the moment. Would love to hear input of it so far! Cheers guys!
I think a great beginner/starter way to start weathering these type of masks are to use a very very watered down acrylic paint in the color of black or brown or a nice mixture! If weathering/shading is heavier in certain areas add more paint to the water to make it a tad thicker and of course wipe this away after applied so the low spots will catch the paint and create the better look of the mask.
Another quick question. I need to tweak the eye cuts on the Elrod because they are a little too small, however, I just don’t want to dive in and commit to the cuts without a guide or something to give me an idea as to how it’ll look before I cut. My question is, is there any kind of black marker that I could use that would wipe clean off of the latex if need be? Would a dry erase marker work? I just want something to draw a black outline around the existing eyes to show me where to cut when I got it where I want it and something that would wipe off/erase if need be.
I basically followed this guys instructions and then I touched up some of the areas like the eyes, ears and mouth using a rag dipped into the watered down acrylic paint. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8I59tPKvjdM
