Rob Zombie "General Discussion" Thread...

im just sayin let us RZ fans be man…we enjoy it u dont…end of story

Any bets Dren comes to the “dark side” eventually?

i know this is prob brought up way too much but RZ should of just directed the TCM remake he is obviously obsessed with the first three (as well am i) . house and rejects i like and appreciate but come on there are sooo many references and straight up almost the same characters . oh and by the way i heard rob said he would never do a remake (obviously before he halloweened it up) because thats unoriginal. I am a big fan of RZ mostly WHITE ZOMBIE but rob has been slipping lately i really would rather see him do a full length WEREWOLF WEMON OF THE SS .

I wouldn’t hope for that too much.

Nispel did it just fine. I’d rather Zombie just stick to his day job: music!

I have yet to post in this thread but i want to say that I am damn happy that Rob didnt go anywhere near the TCM remake. I think marcus was the perfect man for the job and had anyone else done it, it would not be as amazing as it is.

Second, I want to say that Rob does go back on his word quite a bit (I mean, we all heard him say he wouldnt do a halloween sequel), but the remake was pretty badass. I enjoyed it, and didnt sit down planning to compare it to the original piece for piece. The remake is a movie on its own, but he did a good job.

i guess I just really dont get why the haters cant just stop putting Rob and his movies down. Stating an opinion is one thing but some people here are just down right nasty! And lets face it guys, nothing any of us say is going to influence Rob IN ANY WAY, so just let it be if you really dont approve.

so true

Apparently some horror fans are calling for War!

shut up. lol

I didn’t like the remake at all! I can’t stand how the language is vulgar for the sake of being vulgar. The whole beginning was unnecessary. I understand that he was trying to do his own thing, but making Michael into white trash? He really didn’t even expand on his own idea, because when he killed his sister, her boyfriend, and his step dad he was eating candy corn, and then all of a sudden just started killing people. I guess sugar highs do that nowadays? I hated the way he looked throughout the film, especially in that robe. The rape scene was really unnecessary also! I’m also sick of the Charles Manson References also, it’s like OK ROB WE GET IT, YOUR OBBSESSED WITH CHARLES MANSON. At the end it just seemed like he tried using scenes from the original, but failed miserably. for instance when Annie was on the phone, he inserted Micheal outside of the window. Very ineffective. In the original he was making strange noises, killing dogs, pulling down pots, in other words building suspense. In RZ’s it was almost like he put scenes in it to mock JC’s Halloween. I find it funny how Rob has said that he likes the original in interviews, then goes on to saying that. The thing that always bugged me about Halloween was this, and this, and this, and this…etc… Which is basically saying he hates it.
That whole half masked Myers in his Halloween 2 looks ridiculous, and I’m not sorry to say, but that’s not Michael. He’s taken the whole mystique away from Michael. Keep in mind that these are just my opinions. I don’t intend on offending anyone.

Well, ive never really spoke too much on the subject but here is my two cents.

really im not a fan of the remake, i own it and ive watched it several times, well mostly certain parts. Really the only reason i watch H9 is, storyline and director aside, tyler mane was an excellent michael myers and actually to me portrayed Nick Castles movements better than anyone from the other sequels. I however own both the work print and the unrated edition but find the workprint to be alot better, and more suspenseful.

Ive found that if you take the movie and start it off with Sherri killing herself the movie runs alot smoother (no pun intended  ) Watching the remake without the backstory and starting off with him in the ward actually makes the movie a whole lot better, and takes away half the cursing from the movie.

that is one thing i have never understood about Rob zombie, he puts sex, drugs, and cursing in every movie to such an extreme its like they are speaking a different language. I applaud the directors of the Chainsaw remake. that movie was great yet had no nudity at all with very little cussing. (the sheriff was classic) Not to mention it was for the most part a reimaging with completely new characters all save for leatherface, and a new story.

Now for RZ’s sequel part of me is actually lookn forward to it simply because from the trailers seen this is a completely new story ark and not a remake. (but i don’t agree with how much he changes myers’s appearcence)

This explanation may go a lil off topic but it will pretty much follow what is being said.

Besides myers im a huge Godzilla/gamera Fan and i hated the American Godzilla movie back in 1998.

When people think of the japanese godzilla they think of a guy in a rubber suit fighting of baddies protecting japan. That is not the true godzilla. If you watch the very first Godzilla movie, not the americanized version with Raymond Burr, But Gojira, it was one of the darkest horror movies of the time. Godzilla was a supernatural beast, a living nuclear bomb that was meant to be a metaphor of the dangers of nuclear war and a warning to the world of how evil they were. The american godzilla was an iguana exposed to radiation and went on a rampage through new york being took down by 3 rockets to the neck.

Now what does this have to do with myers??? John carpenters Michael was a supernatural force of nature that had no backstory, no one knew why he did it, why such an average guy couldn’t die. When john sold the rights the series really took some u turns and became campy (5 anyone) Like Godzilla Myers was milked for all he was worth.

Now someone came along wanting to remake it thinking that if they make it more realistic it would be better, however in the end that took away the actual evil unexplainable plot and made it nothing more than a problem child that went psycho. The point of these movies was not to be real or the gritty truth but to keep you on the edge asking yourself why. That is why the original halloween just feels like its on a whole different level than Nightmare or Friday, because he was godlike. It wasn’t about the gore, or sex level but the character itself and his unexplainable destiny.

end of my 2 cents…

Gonna give my 2 cents here. I understand that the fan-base of Halloween is split right down the middle. It is the same as pretty much anything that tries to make something old new again. To some, nothing short of the original cast, writer, and production team would ever come close to bettering a Myer film, and even that isn’t gaurenteed. My personal opinion is that though the new outlook on Halloween may not be what i expected to be, it is another movie in which I get to see my fav horror icon and nobody can tell me that it sucks. I can almost 99% gauren-damn-tee you that all those who hated the first RZ Halloween film will go see what they say time after time will be a horrible sequel to a horrible remake, none other than RZ’s Halloween 2. They will because deep down in their heart’s they love Michael Myers and will see anything he is in. I may be wrong, but when it comes out, lets just see how many of the RZ haters go and watch the movie that they preach on a daily basis will suck.

Michael Myers is my friend and I’s favorite character, and He made an good analogy the other day… I told him I’m completely disinterested in seeing this, then he said “This movie is going to be like watching your dog get put to sleep, its gonna suck watching it, and as much as you don’t want it to happen, you have to be there for your dog” So, Basically Michael is the dog in this scenario, And all of us have to watch him get put to sleep. I agreed with him, but now that MY LITTLE PONYS IN A HALLOWEEN MOVIE. This is just another nail in Michael’s Coffin. Possibly the last IMO

Ya know I’m really sick of all you little pets to Zombie. So I voice my opinion a lot on how much I dislike Zombie. Ban me! Oh wait, you can’t, on a mod can and so far I’ve only been asked to cool down a few times. So obviously I can “bitch” all I want. Seems most of you who bitch back at me hardly leave the RZ section so maybe you should actually come in to general discussion now and then and actually join us who enjoy the rest of the series instead of some white trash version of the original (which I don’t think some of you have even seen). I’m heavily opinionated, so what? Deal with it. Not everyone just settles for what they can get like the rest of you. Jesus, the shape (which Myers isn’t even worthy of being called anymore) could return to the screen wearing a Cub Scouts uniform, some high heels, and a beret and you’d all love it! Yea, times have changed. But that doesn’t justify the trashiness of his Halloween. What separates Halloween from average horror movies is creativity. A horror movie doesn’t have to be gory, pornographic, or vulgar to be modern. That’s just the only thing that, unfortunately, entertain your feeble, inattentive minds. It’s not my fault none of you have the patience to sit through a movie that doesn’t have language, tits, and/or gore. It’s you who are the problem, not me and the others who dislike Cumming’s uninspired “vision”.

amen :exclamation:

Amen :exclamation: You forgot to bring up the part that they would worship it even if Mikey rode a my little pony!

I thought early on and before I had seen the remake, if Zombie had done a shot for shot (more or less) remake with the same mask and actors he chose it might have been one heck of an impressive remake. Think about it.

The “nothing will ever replace the original” debate is a good point, but obviously not a deciding factor on if I like this film or not. These movies are like a completely different story altogether. New stories are great and encouraged, but why slap Halloween to it? So it will sell? This is like Coke changing it’s formula twenty five years ago. If it’s a different product - don’t call it by the same name.

People would have liked a crazy ass “Rob Zombie” slasher movie. Instead, we get a crazy ass “Rob Zombie” slasher movie with bits and piece of THE Halloween story thrown on top for good measure.

I was bummed with what he did to the remake(s) but I’m most disapointed that the future of this series will branch from these films. The original series is done.

In retrospect, that is probably a good thing.

Haha Well said Dren I completely agree with you. Now matter how ridiculous his Halloweens get, these people will still find a way to stand up for him, I really don’t get it??? I wish people would get it through their heads that we don’t want a carbon copy of the original, but something thats acutally creative. A lot and I mean A lot of people grip and complain about his mask being too clean in each new movie, but what they don’t understand is it’s not the same mask in every movie. He get’s different ones. In His remake he gets his old one that he mysteriously burys in his old house. So that’s why it’s rotted in HIS version, not the others

They stand up for him because they have no vision, just like him. So far, Halloween is the only remake that has been a neat carbon copy of it’s original. The only one (Despite the fact I hear that Psycho is a carbon copy but I haven’t seen the original nor the remake).

As far as his mask goes, it damn well is dirty in every movie but I guess it has to look like a cross between Leatherface and the Frankenstein monster to satisfy the 11-14 year-old fanbase of this movie.

Subject: Rob Zombie “General Discussion” Thread…

Right…and JC has come out saying that he needed something for the story so he just tossed it out there and made them siblings…just for the hell of it, he needed a QUICK story…and so when RZ went to make his Halloween, it’s already set in stone that they are siblings, so “she wasn’t initially his sister” holds no water…you would’ve bitched if he hadn’t made them siblings as well.

I have avoided these topics like the plague because it’s like debating religion or politics…the “haters” in this case use hot-temper and put-downs and ridicule if you happen to like the remake, and the “non-haters” approach both sides from what I’ve read and seen. So what’s the point of voicing an opinion of liking the remake if you’re just gonna get berated? Halloween was a RE-IMAGING, a remake would be a shot-for-shot, true-to-the-original film…this was a re-imaging to bring the franchise back to the silver screen and open the doors for a new generation of fans. All that needs to be accepted her is that FILM PRODUCTION IS ABOUT BOX-OFFICE GROSS not about staying “true to the original.” Making the die-hard H1 fans happy and appeased would be IMPOSSIBLE no matter what, and making a film that MIGHT do that is not economical. You want a horror movie to make it in the theater and DVD, you need to have gore, tits, etc…and the original, BTW, had quite the nude scenes in it too if you fail to remember…but regardless, it’s got nothing to do with the old-school fans like us…its all about MONEY…and with or without old school fans, Zombie’s Halloween would’ve still done as well as it did and Zombie’s H2 is going to do just as good. It’s like when Metallica came out with “Load”…the old fans were pissed, but they still went to the shows, and complained, and guess what…the seats were filled with MANY MANY fans who didnt even know Metallica had CDs prior to “Load” AND Metallica continues to sell out arenas and put out 3 more CDs since, all selling strong. Follow? IT’S NOT ABOUT YOU, IT’S ABOUT STAYING CURRENT AND MAKING MONEY…people take this all as personal, like Zombie just came to your house, clogged your toliet, and kicked your dog then left giving you the finger…

Furthermore, I believe alot of the angst to be jealousy. None of you bitch and shoot down any of these “fan films” that get posted on the boards…all Zombie has done has made his “fan film”…he jsut got a HUGE budget and the backing of the franchise to do so…nothing more. So if you wouldn’t rip on some one’s fan film on here, why is there a need to rip on Zombie’s fan film???

Ok, I’m done…can’t wait for the heated and emotional responses that continue to repeat the same phrases over and over “Rob sucks!” “How can you like that crap?” etc etc
