Rob’s “Vision” was so different from the original that I don’t even think they should’ve called it Halloween. Put a different mask on him and call it “Rob Zombie’s Boogeyman” for all I care. RZ’s interpretation was in my opinion a flop and a disgrace to what Carpenter built. Carpenter’s movies were creepy and did the job of scaring the audience without the over the top gruesome blood and gore the RZ films displayed. They simply weren’t scary - they were shocking and sickly. We now live in a desensitized culture where things have to be done to the highest extreme. Sorry but extreme isn’t scary to me, or what I look for in a horror film. It worked for a character like Leatherface in the TCM remake, where that’s what the character has been all along. RZ changed so much about Michael that it wasn’t Michael anymore - he did not stay true to the character and the original films. RZ went against everything Carpenter had in mind, and in my opinion it wasn’t a new vision - it was a new character and it could have been a new movie.
I happened to love RZ’s Myers but i will agree that it was a complete 360 to what Carpenter’s original vision was. As far as audiences being desensitized? lets be honest. Theres nothing new there. Gore and extreme brutality was maybe even worse in the late 70’s and early 80’s than it is today. Even the goriest mainstream films today pale in comparison to what was being dished out by the likes of Fulci; Argento; Bava; Lenzi; Lustig and many more back in the day. Rob also wasn’t the first director in the halloween franchise to break from JC’s vision.
Looks like people, today, judge a horror movie by the amount of blood they see on screen.
I think Carpenter’s Myers looked more “real”, an average man stalking you, the atmosphere, the soundtrack…
I’ve always thought something like that could have happened.
Zombie’s vision of Halloween is more for the new generation.
i dont agree with the sissy part, but i do agree on Michael being Known for the Reasonless Killing of his sister. John said it himself in an interview, tht Michale Killed her because he Felt like it. He did it For no reason, He was a normal child. As opposed to Daeg’s childhood myers intake. His was F*&^ed up to high hell. Although, He did have a very uniqe way of dealing with it, Killing his entire family, Cept “Boo” and his mother, who in a way killed her, because she nvr wouldve shot herself he hadnt of done what he did.
as far as dialouge in H3, I want to hear more of the loomis stuff, EX. “you have to stop thinking he is a normal man! that part of him died years ago” & when he describes his relation to michael to sherriff brackett in michael’s house. BTw, i thought loomis was crazy, If ur a normal person u had to decide whether or not u were more terrifyed of loomis, or Michael XD
yea RZ’s halloween got to far from the point of michael, There was too much T.N.A in tht movie, as well as cuss words, the gore was fine, but it was far from nessecary
"what i meant by “Zombie” is that Jc’s michael, Really had few characteristics. He was vague, He was A maked psycopath. As opposed to RZ we know why he’s doin this, We have Bg information, We know his motivation,
I think that everyone will agree that Rob made a remake of Halloween but did he really? Can we even call it that? None of this was his idea or vision okay,Rob could not make halloween on his own let alone even pull off a remake. His vision of halloween was clouded with bong resin and piss poor casting. What did we really learn about little Mikey Myers? That he was raised wrong, his mama was a whore and his sister wouldn’t take him trick-or-treating and so he flipped his lid and started killing everyone… yeah real good story line Rob…We learned alot…OH and I forgot he got bullied in the bathroom at school so that warranted murder in the woods…And BTW what does rape have to do with Michael Myers anyway, do people really have to go to those sadistic links to try and make a movie scary??? BONG RESIN I TELL YA, BONG RESIN!!!
I thought the casting was pretty good in both RZ films. He gets points alone for Tyler Mane as Michael. As for the films? its all subjective…but theres troubled kids like RZ’s Myers who grow up to be homicidal lunatics and theres plenty of “normal” kids like JC’s Myers that become homicidal lunatics. Choose your poison.
The rape scene I agree was dumb on so many levels. That was one of my only complaints though.
To each their own…But I saw alot of characteristics in JC’s Michael…And to me that makes JC’s Michael 10x more frightening not knowing why he is the way he is…JC’s Michael was a normal child from a normal family and one day something just happened…“He is pure Evil” plain and simple…As opposed to RZ’s Michael being a guy who had a screwed up family, got picked on, a whore for a mother ETC…He had motives to be the reason he was…Though RZ’s Michael is still scary JC’s Michael had no motives and no one knows what happened…IMO that is much more frightening…
i agree with you to an extend derek, but what NYghoul said is straight on, rob is not the first guy that headed a completely different Halloween than carpenter’s original. and thats where i stand on RZ’s Halloweens… i enjoy them much more for what they are as opposed to several other Halloween sequels say H6 and resurrection.
tyler mane is a completely different myers from a different origin, but i’ll take that over H3 - resurrection any day.
with that said, we all know the 1978 Halloween will always be the shit
I can honestly relate to Robs more. Not like i was picked on or anything, but just he sudden urge to start killing people. He said “Fuck it, its Halloween”. Still love the original.
DAMN Amy! I love everyone who speaks the damn truth Yeah I thought the rape scene was far from necessary and it was completely sad and disturbing of a young woman being raped…Very stupid for me. And I have a question for all you guys, why in both remakes from Rob, Annie in both movies was found naked or almost naked covered in blood??? I don’t really understand why she was always there on the floor with blood. I wondered what Michael “did” and what Rob wanted it to be…?? And please do not banned me or anything, but did Michael do anything sexual to Annie, or was she randomly naked on the bathroom floor, and dead?
come on dude…thats stretching it a bit. She was topless the first time because she was fooling around and the second time she was in a bathrobe in the bathroom. RZ gave NO indication ANYWHERE that Myers was all of a sudden a sexual predator or even gave a fuck whether or not Annie was nude. He was just a psychopathic killing machine. Lets not go there just because of the dopey rape scene in the first one.
