Hey bro I wasn’t trying to be a jerk. Its just that RZ’s films tend to be nit-picked under a microscope and I was afraid with what you had posted that we were headed to a whole new territory where we really (imo) didn’t need to go. thats all.
Zombie made it like on of his music videos…HALLOWEEN 1@2 arent music videos…
Rob Zombie failed on many levels with his “vision” and it amazes me that some could say that his remake was superior to the original with a straight face.
Zombie didn’t invent HALLOWEEN, he simply created an inferior remake and added a backstory. The backstory had a FEW fair moments such as the scene in the woods where young Michael Myers kills the bully.
However the rest of this “backstory” was nothing but F-bombs, a far overdone trailer trash family, a female looking Mikey crying (doesn’t look like a fat chick, looks like one of the Hanson brothers!!!..errr, ok same thing.) and some hit and miss incarceration scenes.
There were moments the movie wasn’t horrible, given the fact Zombie tried to mimic certain scenes this is to be expected. The problem is what he did wrong. Even if you forget the overuse of F-bombs, the trailer trash family life and a few other problems you still have the one HUGE error that makes Zombie’s vision fail and fail miserably…Zombie RUINED THE SHAPE!
Consider this point. When you think of the “big 3” (Myers, Jason and Freddy) what comes to mind?
Freddy - this child molestor who was burned to death but now carries on his evil antics inside of dreams as some sort of “dream demon” .
Jason - this retarded/mongoloid type that drowns due to carelessness. After death he becomes a zombie-like monster that kills in vengeance for his death as well as his mother’s.
Myers - A man in a mask without a known motive. There is no talking, crying or grunting with the original Myers. He seems human except of his extreme strength. At the end of Halloween there is a shock to find out he has got up and left.
The original shape works because he is silent and his reasons are unknown. Zombie made Myers just another killer basically. We know his motives, we see human emotion (as a child crying and as an adult when he bows in front of Laurie) and the viewer’s eyes are forced to rule over the mind. What I mean is the original Halloween used SUSPENSE and GOOD WRITING to make your mind run wild and dictate what you THOUGHT you had seen. VERY LITTLE real violence was actually shown in the original. With Zombie’s “version” you see graphic act after graphic act, nothing is left to the imagination and there is little suspense in this. It’s nothing more thanThe Devil’s Rejects with a guy wearing a Myers’ Mask.
Halloween 2 … wow. White horses, visions of “little self” and “mommy”, . Out of respect to you in the community who enjoy Rob Zombie’s contributions to the franchise I will leave it at that.
Back to the question…
Simply put…It is John Carpenter’s Halloween that is the reason the Halloween franchise is still here today…bottom line.
Do ANY of you HONESTLY believe that this would have been the same result were Rob Zombie’s version of Halloween the first installment in the franchise audience’s were exposed to?
Oh yeah, I know you weren’t trying to be a jerk NY, many people here aren’t jerks at all. Yeah I don’t wanna go that way
