I’m getting a 75K done by James, it will be a while yet, but I am going H2 on it (well James is) and I have asked for it to have the yellow tinge and lots of flesh showing like the Alice kill scene. If you look at certain scenes, it is clearly aged and slightly yellow, or at least it is to my eyes.
So my question is, why don’t we see H2 masks with this yellowing? It only has to be subtle, adding to the aged look, but it’s never seen? Why? Your thoughts please, this could be an interesting debate!
Personally I like H2 masks with some yellow to them. I know you are not wanting this much of a tanned latex look but I have a mask called the Mixter Sandman which has a yellowed base coat and imo it just works. Here are pics for ya Simon:
That’s the way I see it in the movie and the way I like my H2 masks. There are some parts where it looks white but it makes sense that the mask would have turned yellow after a few years. Although when you see the shots of the mask in Dick Warlock’s house many years later you almost see it as white mixed with some blue. He says it wasn’t repainted but who knows.
These are some great examples. Kaizu’s H2 Creep also has a nice yellow tint to it which looks great. I’m definitely in favour of a yellow tint to the H2 look. -Tom
The hero had many looks in Halloween and Halloween II is no different. I think a nice “dingy” and yellowing look works well for Halloween II. It is faint on my KHSLE but it is there for sure.
I think the perfect color for these masks is a somewhat creamy look, which is a white with a little tinge of yellow.
In my opinion an H2 mask absolutley should have an aged yellow look. That isn’t something you have seen done too much up until recently and I think an H2 mask must have an aged look. The only person that I believe was doing that typically was Justin with his Psycho 81’s but more importantly and common was on his Lunatics. The Lunatic proto I owned, which is now in Mike’s(evilsmellyclown) hands, had the perfect color for an H2 mask,as does my Lunatic I just purchased from Justin last year.I told Justin I was going for that aged yellowing look and he nailed it!!My 08 blood tears Warlock has yellowed in time and I am perfectly happy with that!!So,when I have an H2 done nowadays,I really want that element included for it to look accurate in my eyes. The pictures that you posted from H2 are great examples,Simon and so are the pics of the masks from the other guys.Below are pictures of some of my masks with that look.My 2012 Lunatic,my Mayhem Shat and my KH/AS Image mask. When going H2,there must be an aged, yellow look as far as I am concerned and I specifically request it.Good topic,Si and one I have been discussing with friends for a while.
Fishbelly white has a natural golden tint to it, so I’d assume that the Hero with its’ improper storage conditions would have had that natural gold fade into a more matte and aged yellowish color.
Yes definitely have some blends of yellow on that beast, can’t wait to see it when it’s finished.
I like to think of the color more of like a vanilla cream than yellow
Good thread Simon! Yeah I agree with the yellowed creamier look for a H2… Sometimes bright lit pics make it look brighter but here is a decent example of the difference between my H1 white and my H2 white on Matt’s Shats…
First off, cool thread Simon! I actually prefer a bit of a vanilla cake color thrown in my white for good measure, but nothing overboard. I can’t say why the hero mask would have been more yellow after only a few years. Some say cigarette smoke… but I don’t buy that. I have masks here that are 10 years old, and no yellowing whatsoever… but then again… we don’t smoke!
I usually just go by this pic below that Simon posted… regardless of white balance possibilities! No matter what the lighting or white balance was in this shot… his eye is bluish white, and the mask is much more on the yellow side of things! That says it all IMO. But in the end I have to do what the customer requests… and most people as a rule wants grayish, dirty white without the yellow for their H2s.
This 75K below that I did has a fair amount of “yellow’ish grey” in the mix, but doesn’t really look like it here due to the crazy WB issues in my green room.
I think the yellow tint you guys see is really the lighting used in the film. I remember either reading that or Justin mabry telling me that once at his house. I can’t remember which.
Yellowed and aged…no question.Justin does plenty of his masks with yellow and for a reason. The mask was mishandled prior to H2 and was kept in heated conditions in a cigar box.It was yellowed and that is the way it should be.Not bright yellow…but aged.Done properly, like Justin did and does
Absolutley. The proof is in the pic.The white of his eye is stark white, his eye blue and the mask is obviously more of a yellowed or “cream” color.Done deal right there
In this shot the paper in the background is bright white, and so is the mask (pretty much)… but it’s NOT a bright white mask… it’s yellowish. Anything is possible I suppose!
