That sounds about right. I’ve also heard it could have been 22 or 22.5 inches. Either way, the TOTS Elrod mask seems to be VERY close to the size of the '78 hero, just for the sake of comparison. Interestingly enough, the Elrod uses the Psycho sculpt, which itself has connections to an actual '75 Kirk, from what I’ve heard, so the small size makes a lot of sense.
Yep that’s why we have the Castle stretch. Put his chin into the neck of the mask because it wouldn’t fit into the actual chin, and viola, an instant iconic image was born. Crazy how we are head over heels for a kid’s mask that didn’t fit well, and the look of it not fitting well, is what we obsess over! Lol gotta love it!
That’s what I like about my new 75k loper. It fits like a face more than a mask. I prefer the look of my old proto 98 jc test mold as a mask, but it was a big mask on me. The 75k may not look as good but fits much better, so as a worn piece I like it better
I would guess around 22-22,5 The latex was very flexible back then so it was easier to make room for a big head Kids swim in masks larger than this. It also looks very small on that polaroid photo.
I have the full pic saved on my laptop, which I’ll upload later, but here’s the one of Josh’s. Outside with hair about 24”, meaning with no hair or inside of mask around 23-23.5.
That’s why I think gettin Masks that fit just right really don’t look right. A 25’ mask just isn’t gonna look right. Gotta have not only the same type sculpt but mask really needs to be smaller
It was marketed as a child’s mask, small enough for a child, large enough an adult could get it on as well. It most likely was between 22" -23" give or take. But that stretchy latex goes a long way.
