As the title says, what are your thoughts? Are you upset Nick castle won’t be the main Myers as we all hoped, and lead to believe he was? Personally, I feel duped. Until now, we all thought Nick castle was going to play Myers for most of the movie, with James Courtney just doing the stunts, but now it seems Nick is just going to don the mask for a couple scenes as a sort of cameo. If nothing else, I get the vibe that James Courtney understands what’s riding on his shoulders, and is a Halloween fan (that’s a huge plus). Also, not necessarily related, but according to James Courtney, John Carpenter was only on set for a few days, just going around talking with everyone, and that’s about it really. I believe he’s doing the music, yes? We at least have that to look forward too, but I was hoping for him to have at least a little more input on the movie, though I do completely understand that this is not his movie, and he is not the director, so of course he’s not going to have a huge amount of power and control over it. Though I do understand that the guys making this movie said they never made any major decisions without going to John Carpenter first, so that’s good I guess. Anyway, not to bring anyone down, but my optimism in this movie has slightly decreased with the news of Nick castle not being the main Myers, and John Carpenter just kind of being there a few days and that’s it. At first, it sounded like a perfect get together for the original 3, Nick, John, and Jamie, but maybe I was just too hyped to have realistic expectations. Sorry to ramble on, but I’m really curious how you all feel about these things.
Just to add, when they say Myers is going to be “physical” in this movie, the first thing that comes to my mind is Rob Zombie Myers. And that’s not a good thing.
I’ll give the new Myers a chance. He may turn out to be the best since Nick. You never know. As far as Myers being more physical, you can keep the vibe from the first movie but have Myers be more “hands on.” I know they are making the new one have the same vibe as h1, but at the end of the day its not h1.
Very true. I’m very curious to see James performance as Myers, based on what he said, I’m sure he’ll do fine. Also, I’m very happy they want to make it like H1 at least tone wise.
I’m relieved Nick isn’t the main Michael, some people need to let some of the nostalgia go for Nick being the original Michael. Yes, Nick was the perfect Myers, he embodied how Michael moves and acts, Nick was Michael. But lets face it, Nick is not the same in physicality as he was back in 78’ folks… Make no mistake that Nick is really apart of the movie for fan service, and I’m completely happy with that. But, when boils down to Michael himself in the movie, I want to see someone that can act like Nick back in 78’ (but of course since Michael is older in this movie, have him move a more mature and aggressive version of the original Michael) and from what it sounds, this is the guy to do it.
I don’t know much about him. Bummed myself that Castle won’t be the main star IMO, Dick Warlock is the only other guy that did the role justice besides Castle
I’m really bummed, honestly.
In my opinion, we need another Halloween film like a hole in the head.
These fan services are what was carrying the project for me - Carpenter scoring it, Jamie Lee Curtis having a huge role, Nick Castle playing The Shape, etc.
I, personally, don’t want a “passing of the torch”. I’d like either an end-all-be-all fan-service sequel, or no movie at all.
I know that sounds dramatic, negative, and stubborn, but I see it like this: what other reason would there be for another Halloween sequel besides fan service anyway? It just seems like nobody can just sit back an appreciate a film that already exists and just leave it alone. Like Dario Argento said about a possible Suspiria remake, “The film is there. If you want to see it, just put the DVD in.”
I really don’t mean to be a downer, so you can ignore me if you want. Lol
No man, I completely understand what you mean. I feel pretty much the same way. I was seriously hoping Nick castle would be the main Myers, because I mean come on, we have John and Jamie back, plus Nick, so I want this to be the farewell the fans deserve, from the ones who started it all back in 1978. For that reason, I just wanted Nick to play Myers like he did in H1, one last time. I think he still has it in him to pull it off, minus stunts of course, but that’s why we have James Courtney
I really don’t have a firm opinion yet, mainly due to the fact that I’ve never seen JJC in anything. While I am a little let down that Castle won’t have a huge role in the film, I appreciate something new.
Not sure why you would think that. That happened to be, IMO, the best thing about the remakes. You can be big and tall and still for the part. Nick wasn’t exactly short.
Well as long as he isn’t in the movie for the same reason that Bill Murray was in the ghostbusters remake then I don’t really feel duped at all, in fact im kind of relieved he isn’t going to be the main Myers. As much as I adore and respect his performance in the original halloween, Nick Castle most likely doesn’t have it in him like he did 40 years ago. Just be glad we have somebody that’s passionate about the franchise playing Myers.
True, but I guess it’s because they say they want to go back to the style of the original, and when I think of Michael Myers in the original, I don’t think “physical”. Yes, he busted down the closest, and had some hands on kills. But when I think of Myers in the remakes, “physical” comes to mind because he was VERY physical in those movies. If they’re going the way of the original as they say they are, “physical” doesn’t really fit, unless they want to basically put Rob Zombie Myers in the atmosphere of the original, which does not work in my opinion.
That was his opinion too ( and mine) and we are entitled to it. Being tall is far different than being aggressive/ Jason like. One of the “many” bad things about the awful remakes imo I guess we’ll just have to wait & see
Michael has been played by some pretty big dudes. Do you consider H4, H5 and H6 Myers to be “physical?” Granted, Tyler is in a whole other stratosphere but where do you draw the line?
If Michael is going to be physical in this movie, I want him to be physical very precisely, and careful like in the original. He has strength greater than a normal human but uses his strengths in a very ghostly, precise way. As oppose to Rob Zombies Myers that just acted like a rabid grizzly bear.
