So, how does everyone feel about James Jude Courtney being the new Michael?

Yeah, you’re right. Those were some beefy guys, who did good jobs I think. I guess what I’m trying to say is, I just don’t want a violent Myers, aka, Rob Zombie Myers. Michael Myers is not a monster of a killer like Jason Voorhees, he is a creepy stalker of the night who is methodical, and strikes when the moment is right. Nothing against Rob Zombie Myers if that’s your thing, because I do believe he worked well for the style of the Rob Zombie movies, but that’s not what this is. This movie is a direct sequel to the original, and completely ignores all the others, so technically, Michael should not be too big in this. Sure, he could have grown an inch if he was 21 in the original, and this is 40 years later, so I guess he could have also put on some muscle, who knows?

Exactly, this.

I read recently where among the names considered before Nick came into the equation (Chris Durand and Tom Morga), Don Shanks also expressed interest in coming back. If not Nick, Don would be the guy I would’ve wanted. He made Michael believable again for me in H5, though the movie itself wasn’t that great. Don made Michael human again while holding on to that supernatural element.

I don’t know, perception I guess. Because I found RZ Myers to be just as stalky, if not moremso. I think the fact he is gigantic and his kills brutal distorts that. Hell, Myers was crushing guys with his bare hands in half the movies. The RZ movies just have more blood and gore, that’s all. I don’t really feel Myers was really any more “violent” than in previous films. Shrug

Don Shanks was great in H5. He had a lot more scenes that required more “acting” than the other Myers actors. The only actor I can honestly say I did not like was Durand. Wilbur,Shanks, and Loree had a good blend of Castle/Warlock.

Yeah, that’s true. Maybe violent is the wrong word, maybe aggressive would be the better word, I don’t know, it is what it is I guess

It’s really not about how brutal they die, but how Michael kills them.
For example in H4 Michael doing the shot gun kill when he impales the gun through the girl, he moves very precisely when doing it, still keeping his ghostly mannerisms.
In the RZ movies, when Michael kills people he just goes wild and lashes out, stumbling, violently stabbing over and over etc.
example for this, when Michael takes the coveralls from grizzly in RZH1, Michael just violently lashes out at him banging him around
(If it were h4 Michael he would do it in a way being ever so calmly, but the kill being very brutal)
Also for example in RZH2 where he kills those guys in the field or whatever, the grunting and stabbing repeatedly.

So, it’s not really about how brutal the kill is, it’s Michaels mannerisms.

Very well put, I agree.

They should have made both actors sign a NDA to keep this under wraps. They NEVER should have admitted to any of this before the release of the movie. They should have let people enjoy the film and then reveal all that later.

That’s a good point, would have prevented loss of hype

I’ll just wait and see it, then give me honest opinion. But I can’t help but feel a bit bummed Castle won’t be The Shape for most of the film.

I don’t understand the comments saying they’re glad Courtney is there because they don’t know if Castle still has it in him? Say what? I don’t understand that assessment at all.

Sure for stunts usually there’s another guy, but for the walking, stalking, lurking stuff, ie the “important” things when it comes to Michael Myers, I’m fairly sure he could do the job just fine. And I thought the production was looking for someone age appropriate? Well then bingo, that’s Nick Castle.

It’s not even hyperbole, Castle separated himself from all others with ease. It’s because of him and how he portrayed Michael(and the look of the character) that drew me to Halloween and has kept me a fan all of these years later. He’s the reason why I have a lifesize Michael in our entranceway at home. He’s the man.

Take the infamous walk across the street while JLC bangs away on the door for Tommy. Effortless. Sure it’s just walking, but you just can’t put your finger on it. Menacing, with a purpose, coming right at you. Now compare that to Warlock walking like a zombified turtle in H2. Or Wilbur doing his best Michelin Man impersonation in H4. Or Durand with his duck feet in H20. Or the God awful running and grunting Mane in Zombie’s stab at the franchise.

Absolutely nobody comes close.

I’m very let down by this news. I really wanted to see Nick back in the role for the majority of the film. I’ve always felt his portrayal of The Shape was superior to everything that came after. Since the beginning it really seemed like Nick was going to be the main player here, from the treadmill video to the behind-the-scenes photos. JJC may end up doing a wonderful job but I liked the feeling of knowing that the guy under the mask was the same guy from the original.

This is what I think… 70% of the movie JJC doing stunts, killing people, chasing people, lifting dead bodies, all physical stuff. 30% of the movie NC doing the walking, stalking, lurking, watching, shadow stuff.

if this is the case then they should of gotten Chris Durand

You got that right brother!

Same here man.

I think John Carpenter, in these latter years, has full embraced his legacy. He’s always been pretty dismissive of his films but I think he’s finally realizing how big of an impact they’ve been to his fans. He also had a whole new generation of fans inspired by his work.
