As newer and higher quality prints of these films come out we will continue to redefine the way we see these props and costumes. If we were basing it on old screen shots, we’d have to say that the mask and skin tone was painted blue too.
Okay I’m just not going to continue arguing the point. Your opinions aren’t changing and neither are mine. You seem to be angry in your posts towards me throughout this thread and I’m not sure why. But that’s the thing about the internet- it’s almost impossible to determine someone else’s feelings or emotions, so I could be way off base. That being said, I respect your opinion very much as you seem to have a ton of knowledge (more than me) and that’s why I clearly state that the actual coveralls are green as stated by pics and cast members. All I said is if one prefers blue to go for it because it tends to be a little more screen accurate. Like I said it’s all opinionated and really it varies from person to person on whether or not they see green or blue.
I don’t mean to antagonize or bring an offensive attitude to your discussion. We have a clear disagreement. I believe when we acquire new information and get closer to the truth, we should eliminate outdated preconceived notions on how we view these props. The same goes for Halloween I / II. We’ve disseminated enough reference and knowledge into the community that it’s changed the way we truly SEE the costume. We don’t see blue as an option anymore, and have reduced the debate to olivewood, charcoal, or spruce.
Blue isn’t recommended anymore because it isn’t considered screen accurate. I believe the same will happen with the Roy coveralls as time goes on. We won’t see them as blue. The only reason I’m adamant is because I can’t un-see them as green - they will never look blue to me. I just want to pass that info on and hope it changes the way the community approaches these props, in an effort to create more true screen accurate replicas.
I will respect how you’d like to lead your thread, but my attitude strictly comes from my offense hearing a “definitive guide” imply “screen accurate” is a flexible term, with flexible sensibilities.
Just found this awesome part 5 poster from what appears to be Japan. Not only does it show the true green color of the coveralls, but it also shows details on the mask such as distortions, hole placements, etc! So cool!
It just occurred to me that you’re missing the appearance the Part 3 “Hero” made in Part 4, not just in post production, but on set. Here’s a behind the scene photo that shows it before they took the triangles off. One of my favorite looks.
Glad you brought this up! I temporarily excluded it due to my confusion of where it fell on the timeline.
Why did they use the stunt part 3 as the part 4 hero when they had the main mask from part 3 on hand?
Why did they remove the chevrons at all on the part 3 hero Mask?
Was it to match the part 4 (p3 hero) Mask? Why did they remove them at all?
When did they remove them? During filming, after filming?
I was watching a video where a guy claimed the part 6 boots were Dunham originals. He actually weathered them to be really dark brown like in the movie, though they started out as a light tan color. I’m not at all sure if these were the brand used in the movie, but they seem pretty close to me, so I thought I’d let you know
Thank you!! I’ve got some free time today so I can start to look at screen caps and try to find a match.
Thank you again!
Edit: Comparing them with some screencaps/BTS pics, they look to be a match to the Dunham boots! Sweet! Thank you! One more thing down . Will edit later today.
On the debate on the color of the part 5 Roy coverall colors it is hard to tell by the lighting. Some have a blue hue while others look spruce and even charcoal grey! Case in point during the 1960’s the train engines where I live were painted a smoke grey. In some photos the engines appear a green olive hue while other photos looked down right blue ! It all has to do with lighting from the scene. If a screen pair showed up or cast recollections it’s a toss in the air. But years ago when doing a Roy part 5 costume I opted for the charcoal gray coveralls.
I always thought they were a blue, tbh. Until it was pointed out and I was presented some evidence and I found some myself I came to the conclusion that they were definitely spruce green or some kind of green. The lighting in the film definitely plays a big part, but you can also see BTS photos in bright light where they are for sure green.
I will say though, I prefer a charcoal/blue for costumes. It may not be totally accurate, but I just like the way it looks.
