The “bigger” H40 is only slightly bigger, perhaps longer. I’ve got a few that fit, albeit snugly. The standard “smaller” ones I can barely get on, and when they do go on, they are uncomfortably tight.
The first mask is closer to the wearable but tight territory. I wouldn’t exactly say tight, but definitely no wiggle room. It’s definitely against the face and leaves no space between. Still very much wearable though. It’s right on that border of being tight. So closer to the Jerk I would say.
Why, exactly? If Chris Zephro refuses to make money by giving fans a larger version as requested for almost two years, I say we make it ourselves. I’d love a copy that actually fits and would be pay for what Bogey is suggesting here. Maybe it would convince Zephro to listen to his customers for once.
I’ve hoped that at some point one of the very talented sculptors in the community like Nikos would take on the H40 and sculpt their own version and make masks in a larger size. The two independent masks I’m familiar with simply didn’t look as good as the TOTS mask, which is the dilemma for independent artists: from a sculpt standpoint, the TOTS is perfect for the obvious reasons, so other than a larger size there’s not much for an artist to improve on. Kirk is correct, a 3D scan or a recast isn’t original work and would legally be considered theft of a design that has been licensed by TOTS. TOTS would likely leave an independent artist who does their own sculpt alone, but would likely go after a 3D scan-based mask maker hard. I know this hobby has seen its share of scans, recast, etc., but much of that occurred when the scale was relatively small and no one was actively protecting the legal rights to the designs, which is not the case today.
I don’t know man, pretty sure I read at the time that the two indies that DID produce H40 masks got ‘cease and desist’ orders, maybe from Chris or maybe from Blumhouse, can’t remember.
Dude you do know that the h40 mask was sculpted from JJC life cast his head just happens too be very small and it is impossible to make a small mold bigger
So you’re equating the recasting of a rare 40-year-old mask, of which only about 4 mint copies exist, to the recasting of a readily available mask that is being produced as we speak and is obtainable for $60? Not even close to the same thing.
Almost anyone who’s recast a piece of readily available work from another artist has been shunned for it, it is frowned upon and that’s a fact. I was simply giving you the heads up that it was a bad idea and you’d more than likely be A. banned and B. threatened with legal action. The advice was not meant to be malicious in any way.
A heart felt letter to Chris or Justin explaining your valid points about making the mask larger would probably do better than the bomb throws (rude comments) on Facebook that Trick or Treat gets asking about it. I’m surprised as well the mask doesn’t come in 2 different sizes.
A 3D scan will only bring legal issues that you don’t wanna even mess with.
its impossible too make it bigger the screen used mask is actually a few cm smaller then the tots you can make a bigger mold smaller but not the other way arround there really isnt a way too make them bigger
I remember when the H40 began making it into collectors’ hands and someone asked Zephro very nicely if there was a chance for a larger mask. He rudely called this person and others out as “complainers” and said it would never happen. This is the level of respect he has for collectors.
As for the impossibility of the mold being enlarged, I’m not an expert by far, but I do believe the mold can be scanned. The digital copy can then be enlarged and printed, allowing for larger masks. I’m not sure how much this would cost, but there’s clearly an interest in it. I don’t care for the film but would love to have a wearable mask in my collection.
I initially thought all masks were the same size but soon discovered there are variations. In some instances (like the one pictured) the mask has been notably bigger. In the shots note how far set back the eyes are & how big the neck looks - despite being cut correctly.
I have rehauled a lot of masks now & there is no doubt there is variation.
That would cost a but load and you can’t just scan a mold it’s inverted they would have too scan the screen used too get the best detail but even then they would have too go in digitaly and retool the 3d model too get the sharpest detail or ot would come out flat then can print it and create a mold from that then technically it would no longer be from the screen used molds anymore if they did all that
I guess my questions is since the TOTS comes directly from the movie master, why doesn’t it run big to begin with? James Jude Cortney is virtually the same size as me. Both of us are 6’3" and he weighs about 225 and I’m about 230. Both of us appear proportionate so I’d be surprised if he didn’t at least sport a 24" melon. I’m in the 24.5-25" range.
Truthfully, I do very little cosplay and my re-hauled H40 only sits in a display case in my home theater. Still, I understand that there are a lot of us larger headed fans out there that would like to own a 2018 Halloween mask that they could wear. Just one of those things we have to live with I guess since the vast majority of the population doesn’t have heads over 24".
JJC head is actually around 23 inches the screen used mask is actaully smaller then the tots mask and it is impossible too make a small mold bigger there is no way too make bigger copies
the mask was sculpted on a JJC lifecast so if its too small for most people it is JJC’s fault not tots and it has been confirmed the screen used hero is a few cm smaller then the tots mask because tots copied the master mold and I’ve seen JJC wear a few tots masks and they fit kinda loose on him
