TOTS HUGE LOSS

“We are saying goodbye to many popular properties in the new year. This means products are on their last run and will not be available in 2024. Inventory is already very limited on these popular items. If there is a must-have on your list ORDER NOW before they head to the crypt!”

The Chucky Franchise / Halloween II / Halloween III: Season of the Witch / Universal Studios Classic Monsters / The Black Phone / The Purge Franchise / They Live / Dead Silence / Freaky / The Munsters / Nope / Us / An American Werewolf In London / JAWS / Peter Jackson’s King Kong

I’m guessing they lost the Universal license. It’s pretty sad to see the H2’s in particular go because that was the first Myers mask they had. Also, say what you will about Trick Or Treat Studios, but that mask was such a special moment for the hobby…never before did we have a mass produced Myers mask for a decent price, that you could walk into a store and buy off the rack, that actually had a pretty accurate sculpt and details.

Definitely, I remember seeing the TOTS H2 in spirit for the first time and being blown away by how better it was than every other mass produced masks at the time. I was young at the time so I hadn’t had any experience with indi masks yet so it was pretty exciting, shame to see it go.

This sucks, especially (for me) the loss of H3. Who’s going to get the license and do anything like TOTS did? Rubie’s? Hell no. I’m so glad I got my H3 Singing Pumpkin. They’ve sold out and they won’t be making more.

Chucky and H2-3 are the big surprises considering how many Chucky dolls they have made, and how the H2 and H3 masks really put TOTS on the map.

Could be like the TCM license, where they lost it for a couple years and then got it back.

But I do have a lot of items from those licenses. Jaws, American Werewolf in London, They Live, Halloween 2 and 3, Universal Monsters, and the original Childs Play Good Guy Kickstarter doll.

I hadn’t even seen the H3 singing pumpkin until now. Looks sold out everywhere. Damn.

-Found one seller on ebay, asking $70 for them.

–Oh, score, just got the last one in stock from Screamers Costumes. Hopefully stock was correct.it does show out of stock after my checkout. Fingers crossed.

If they can make a better sculpt I hope to see the H2 return

Isn’t there already a H2 V2? It’s not in this last chance catalog.

Shame about the H3 masks though, I wanted to buy them eventually…

Well, geez. I went and panick-bought the glow-in-the-dark SOTW masks after reading this. Too bad though.

Man, like a lot of us, the H2 mask was the first I ever bought from them. They’ve come a REALLY long way in the last decade. It’ll be a shame that the rights to every Halloween mask will no longer be under one roof. I find their Universal Classic Monsters a huge loss in particular. I have a lot of love for those old masks, even though none of them even fit my tiny noggin.

That’s what I’m hoping, too.

Oh but it is in the last chance catalog… Check again. I snagged one. I love that glossy yellow finish on this version!

I said this already in the other thread but I will reiterate it here… as far as H3 goes, TOTS now OWNS Don Post Studios and WILL be putting the Skull, Witch and Pumpkin out under the Don Post brand. They prob wont have the chips on them but Don Post owns the rights to those masks, not Universal.

Looks like they terminated a Universal license due to a lawsuit they brought up regarding the Halloween 3 masks. Major loss for the community considering Universal is just going to work with Rubies, Spirit, etc from now on

Oh wow, you are right. Man… I don’t have the money right now for a H2… guess i’ll have to buy a boogeyman later on and rehaul that one into a h2 then

Hot take, but H2 was always TOTS’ weakest Myers mask, and although I’ll miss the Universal Classic Monsters line up, I’m certain TOTS will reissue many of them under the DP label.

I know it will be lesser in quality, but I AM kinda curious what other studios could do with the H2 license.

Well The Jaws stuff is a bummer. I haven’t gotten the other franchise items but for those who like the H2 ir certainly is a great resource to get newer masks for re-hauls.

I skimmed this but wasn’t clear on what exactly Universal did that led to the lawsuit. Am I right that it looks like Universal was allowing other companies to make products using the H3 designs?

Its all about the masks. Don Post has always owned the Skull and Witch masks and Universal has been working under the idea that they owned the designs. The Pumpkin is a bit less clear but I would also assume Don post owns that as well. With TOTS now owning Don Post they are trying to protect the trademark and keep folks like NECA or whomever else from make items with their designs without licensing it from them.

Thank you! NECA came to mind but I wasn’t sure if TOTS had licensed those or not.
