Wow lots of TOTS criticism. Most of you either forgot or weren’t around when we had nothing worth buying under $300.
Also, I’ve had nothing but positive experiences with Chris. If you brought accurate mass produced masks to the community for $60 and received extensive criticism and troll comments, you might reply to them and defend yourself. I’m honestly dumbfounded by some of the negativity I see on them both here and on Facebook. There was NOTHING in their price range for 15 years worth considering.
The new mask is going to be phenomenal and I would expect no less. This is Justin Mabry we are talking about… We have never seen anything but the best from him since the beginning of this community. Trust me, he didn’t work on Myers for over 20 years to drop the ball on this one.
I would agree with this, and generally I do considering the quality of the sculpts offered by TOTS. The buggy-eyed kirks are unexcusable though, price or not.
To be clear, I don’t doubt they wont deliver a good product. I am just weary of the attention to detail in terms of paint and hair. If Justin were finishing each and every one then I would have no doubts, but since they’ll be done in mass quantities and quickly I don’t know want to get overly optimistic on finishing work. No disrespect meant to TOTS or any involved parties .
Since you do seem to know more about the subject at hand, are you aware of whether or not the mask will be released prior to, or after filming?
I would be shocked if they don’t show the mask in the trailer, at least partially. They have to sell this movie to the general public, and I would assume they need that mask to sell it.
I didn’t really think about the way it sounded until just now.
I wasn’t saying I think he’s a bad guy or anything, just that I’ve heard things good and bad both and most people are fearful to speak badly of him since he’s done so much for the hobby in terms of what’s available. I’ve personally never dealt with him so I can’t say for certain.
It’s just one of those things that require independent research to form an opinion on.
Seems like I misunderstood your intent. Sorry about that.
Yeah I’m going to hit Google, see what I can find. In the end being a “bad” guy (in the context of our collecting world, or not if it’s just rumors), is still better than being a scammer!
Let’s also keep in mind that, back in 2002, the Cinema Secrets’ Halloween Resurrection Econos were $30-50 retail (give or take), the Deluxes were $70 retail (give or take) and the Collector’s Editions were $250-$300 from what I remember. The only ones worth a shit were the Deluxes and the Collector’s versions. I would argue that the various Myers masks ToTs has been putting out for the past few years are of a quality somewhere in the middle of the quality that the CS Econos & the CS Deluxes had, and there’s nothing wrong with that. We would be beyond lucky to get a new 2018 Halloween Myers mask in comparable quality to the CS Resurrection Deluxe for $70 in today’s market & economy considering inflation and overhead. I’m hoping for a sculpt, paintwork and hair on the new 2018 Myers mask that is on par with what the CS Deluxes had, and I would expect, and would be more than happy, to pay $100/mask for that kind of quality in today’s world.
I read it in the Facebook comments. Someone asked for special editions and they said something along the lines of “we assure you every one will be finished to movie quality!”
They’re going to be great, and you wont be able to get a $60 movie mold blank as good as the mask they release. So, if the finishing isn’t up to one’s taste, it won’t be hard to spruce it up!
