ToTs rehauls, rehaulers and rehaul tips MASTER THREAD

Sorry double post pls delete

Thank you.

Hello everyone!!! New here! Looking for some advice. I picked up a TOTS 78 to get signed by Nick Castle. I wanna do a soft rehaul. Just make it look better. A wash, some dry brushing the features, liquid latex on glue lines and eyebrows, but especially the hair. What is the best way to style the hair right on this thing? Any recommendations are greatly appreciated!!!

Hi Everyone! Looking for some advice salvaging my first attempt at a rehaul. I tried to follow a video that suggested a mixture of liquid latex and acrylic paint. I made some mistakes, and the dark wash ended up seriously graying the mask rather than filling in the details. I’ve tried using latex paint cleaning wipes, isopropyl alcohol, and denatured alcohol, but the liquid latex + acrylic mixture just isn’t coming off. I’ve been scrubbing for hours now. Anyone have any advice for getting the liquid latex + acrylic paint off?

I appreciate your help!

For future reference I would paint in the cracks first then dry brush the off white around them with as little paint as possible. The wash method never really works in my experience. As for removing the paint, the method you’re doing should work however maybe you could just go over it.

PLEASE!!! Tips on styling my TOTS 78 hair like that!!! I’ve heard everything from wet it down, to gel and/or hairspray. Comb, brush, pick. And especially the best way to tackle the wings. I beg of you!!!

Does anyone on here have a recommendation for how to attach lenses to the eye hole of a TOTS 78 mask. I’m pretty blind without my specs on and want to take some old lenses I have laying around and make it so that I can see while wearing it. Reluctant to use superglue since I don’t have the best understanding of how that might affect the latex.

Yeah, lesson learned on that wash front. I guess I’ll just keep hitting it with more and more latex paint remover + denatured alcohol for the time being. I don’t want to just go over it again because its already on the thicker side, and some of the nicer details will get lost if I go over it again.

Thanks for your help!

Looks awesome!!! Please can you give me tips on the hair styling PLEASE!!! I need tips on styling my TOTS 78 hair like that!!! I’ve heard everything from wet it down, to gel and/or hairspray. Comb, brush, pick. And especially the best way to tackle the wings. I beg of you!!! And did you dry brush black into the facial features?

I wanted to share a quick demo of the mesh I added behind the eyes of my Boogeyman. As you can see I could get a natural shadow if the lighting and placement was just-right but I like the sort of “guarantee” this method gives me. Really pleased with how they came out, darkens the eyes a LOT from the outside but visibility is no worse than looking through a screen door.

I used a black mesh fabric that I found in the “mesh”/“tulle” section of the fabric store, just got the minimum cut as I didn’t need much. Decided against using nylons or leggings because those tend to be a little TOO dark and I didn’t want to impact my visibility too much; in the store I ended up holding different fabrics against my eyes to make sure I could see, then against my hand to make sure it ‘darkened’ enough. I used two layers of the mesh (each eye was one piece folded over), they naturally ended up a little misaligned which achieved the shading I was looking for.

Glued the eye backings one at a time using tacky glue. The eye sockets of the mask aren’t particularly deep or shaped so you can get the mesh to adhere. While drying if you notice it’s slipping you can apply more glue to the section as needed, I propped the interior of the mask open with a scrap of wood so that the drying eye would lie flat while the other side of the mask wouldn’t fall on top of it. The Boogeyman mask comes with black “eyeliner” applied, I did a little extra cleanup once the glue dried to make sure there was no white showing around the sockets. I’ve had no trouble with the mesh coming loose or irritating my skin even as I’ve taken the mask on and off and flexed it around while doing more work.

Hello all.
Quick question about TOTS 78 hair.
All the videos I see say to bring the hair over the stock glueline using liquid latex. Well I tries and it doesn’t seem to hold when going back to style the hair. What else has anyone else used.
I was contemplating using gorilla glue. Thoughts?

Liquid latex usually works quite well from my experience. Make sure to apply a good amount of it and to hold the hair down for a minute or so. Give it a little while before you do any styling with it to make sure it’s fully dried.

if you’re using latex, use latex made specifically for masks as I think its thicker, but for the hairline, I suggest using tacky glue or E6000 as those dry clearer

Thanks!

Thank you. Ended up going with the gorilla glue lol. Seem to have worked pretty well.

So here is my very first ever rehaul. Barely lol. All I was looking to do was a slight upgrade so it looks a little cooler and have Nick Castle sign it. Listen I get 100% that it is nowhere near the quality of the all the other masks on here. But I am actually quite happy with it!!! However, any suggestions if I should add black to the hair or not? It may help blend the hairline maybe? Or leave it the way it is? Thanks for any suggestions!

Saw something about flex seal inside a mask to slow down rot and break down. Is this something that should be done? Got my masks signed so will not be handled and may be encased in a plastic cube display like the one shown here (not mine, mine are the two with posters). So… how much do I really need to worry about rot or breakdown of my masks in my lifetime?

Got a follow up question in regards to foam mannequin heads. Ordered some black ones from Amazon. They came and seem to have a felt of some type over the Styrofoam. In that case would you still need to put a plastic bag over it. And curiously, what about spraying a foam head with plastidip? Thoughts?

My recent kirk conversion. Amazing what lighting can do on a blank white surface.
