On day of the dead I found William Shanter’s head.
Ok I spent my Halloween weekend in the big city of Pittsburgh, PA. I had great time and the Scare House was pretty damn sweet for a 30 min walk through Haunted House. Horror on the river was fair. All the people dressed up on the south side Saturday night totally kicked ass: Babes galore guys, in very slutty outfits I might add. If I weren’t already married, I would have been working my mojo on the ladies. Ok back to my mask. So on Sunday Nov. the 1st before I started my trip back home with my wife, her friends wanted to stop by a comic shop, and to my surprise behind the counter was Shanter mask. I froze for like 30 seconds like a deer caught in a set of headlights thinking “OMG could this be one?” So I asked the dude working was that mask for sale and he smiled at me and shook his head. He referred to it as the Shanter Michael Myers. So I asked him was it a Don Post mask. He wasn’t sure so he called someone on his phone and they told him to refer to sheet behind the counter. According to the sheet it was a Shanter mask from Don Post Studios but he didn’t know what year it was made. So I looked it over and over trying to find some kind of marking on it with Don Post or some kind of copyright stamp (didn’t find one). So I told him I would take it. It looks like someone wrote a # 6 on the back of it and for whatever reason on the right side where some of the paint came off the neck there is some writing on it but I can’t make it out.
The Hair feels really old , the mask smells of smoke, and the mask isn’t that big. I haven’t tried it on nor am I, cause my head size is 23" 1/2 round, and I’m pretty sure this won’t fit me.
Let me know what you think and thanks for looking.
How much did you pay for it?
Wow, I can’t stop looking at it…So different, yet, so…authentic!!! It really does look great!
Look at the ears on that thing. It’s spot on sculpt-wise, IMO. The only weird thing are the eye holes.
Hopefully one of the Kirk specialists will see this thread and reply.
I’ve never seen a Kirk like this before.
To me, it immediately looks 75 related. I don’t think it’s a 99 Kirk, as it has a thin nose, and 75 style ears. The hairline does look like a 99 Kirk, but that’s obviously it, ‘just looks like’. I would say it’s some kind of 75 recast, but the details are stunning, and the ears are not disformed. I don’t know. It’s a mystery. It’s certainly got the facial structure of a 75. The lips, eyes, nose, ears and eyebrows point to that in my opinion. It would be extremely easy to have those eye cuts filled, then have it rehaired and it would basically be as close to a perfect 75 as you could get.
Lets hope someone who knows Don Post Kirks can chime in on this.
wow man you obviously ran across a pretty rare score. i have never seen a kirk like this nor ever heard of an actual 75 kirk that had those strange eyecuts.
im interested to hear what our pros know about this.
