You know what, this may be based off the Michael Myers mask in the game Dead by daylight, it certainly looks a lot like it. In the game, the mask is called “Boogeyman mask”. TOTS supposedly has the Dead by daylight license this year anyway.
I’ve been playing with Michael for quite a bit on DBD and personally it looks nothing like it, I think the DBD mask is pretty ugly and more akin the Hospital mask, I like this Boogie mask better
Maybe this will be the H1 version that will be out in stores? Seems unlikely due to it coming out so late, but never know since the 78 isn’t coming to stores or so they say… I just don’t like the no brow feature like the 78 has. I understand in the movie you don’t always see it, but it’s either there or not there on the actual original mask, I feel mask makers need to decide one or the other. I love the hospital mask because the brow feature but I like the Elrod for how slim and subtle the cheeck features are.
I’m honestly okay with that bc I think the Elrod has always looked very much like a Kirk… it just had horrid hair. What was the origin of the Elrod? Did they use a Kirk in any way to get the sculpt?
As far as I know, the Elrod came from the Nightowl Psycho sculpt by Justin Mabry, who also works for TOTS. I am not familiar with the origins of the Psycho, however.
That’s the Elrod for sure. Maybe they are just redoing it with better hair. But it is most certainly the Elrod.
Just for those who don’t remember, this was the mask that was originally going to be their H1 mask a few years ago. Then when the rights fell through, they were going to call it the H2 Clean, opening sequence mask. Then somewhere along the line it became the Elrod.
Now it has circled back around to where it was originally intended. I may grab one down the road if they did in fact change the hair. I have an Elrod, but the hair just ruins it for me. Never had the desire to rehair it.
And yes, the Elrod was in fact the Psycho sculpt by Mabry. This is the same mask.
I’m assuming it’s new hair if it says hand laid hair. That seems an oddly specific thing to say if not. Also I don’t think that giant glued on piece for the Elrod would be considered hand laid right?
It’s good marketing in a way. Use the same thing and call it a different name. Some people won’t know the difference. The Elrod or boogeyman looks more H1 than the 78 they have. Wonder if sizing will be bigger for this Boogyrod mask. Would be great if they gave a ballpark number instead of a person buying a 24/25 and looking like a bobble head
That is definitely a very specific detail they don’t usually touch on, so I would think that it definitely means it will be some sort of hand laid camel hair or what not. Let’s hope so, it will make this mask worlds better.
But yeah they certainly put that detail in the description for a reason.
I would guess they did this for a couple reasons:
one, this was originally meant to be an H1 mask, then the rights fell through. So this move puts it back to where it was originally intended.
Two, they said back in 2016 that the hair would eventually be changed to better hair, but it never happened. Now they finally got around to it lol.
Also why use the psycho sculpt and not the creep?? Even though they have the 75 Kirk it’s the same as using the Elrod for the New boogeyman. The pictures appear like paint looks whiter compared to Elrod pic. But we all know the Elrod was way whiter than this pic
I agree. I’d rather see them use the Creep sculpt than the Psycho. They used the Creep sculpt for their Kirk mask I believe, so why not use it for a proper H1 Myers mask too? I find it more accurate than the Psycho myself.
