What would you do?

I made a deal with a member on this board to buy a mask. We agreed on $550.00 and I immediately paypaled the money. Then he asks me to “confirm” the transaction. In paypls fine print it says, that once clicked I can’t dispute any issues. Whoa! That’s my only insurance to make sure I don’t get screwed…

I understand sellers don’t receive the actual payment until the package is delivered to look out for the customer, but there was no way I was giving up my right to dispute a transaction…

The seller says he needs the money to ship it! Hmmm that’s sketchy, so I offer to send 500 and another transaction for 50. That was I’d confirm the 50 so he’d get the money immediately and be able to ship it. He refuses this… That’s weird? That’s a great way to get the ball rolling. So he refunds my money. I guess the family emergency he needed the money for isn’t THAT serious.

I’m super disappointed about this not working out. I just got a check to buy this mask that I’ve wanted and I get dealt this crap. I’m posting this so others be careful when buying things online. It something smells fishy, it probably is fishy… Stay safe fellas!

You wanted to send him 50, Him ship it, and then you pay the rest of the 500?

If you use PayPal, the seller receive the money immediately. The only exception is eBay sellers who have been selling for less than 90 days; they have to wait 24-48 hours after an item is confirmed delivered. If you pay through Goods & Services, you are both covered. He gets the money immediately, prints a label to ship right through PayPal, and once you receive the product PayPal is notified and updated.

I am a bit confused by your post. If you sent him the entire $550 and he said he needed more to ship it, or that he didn’t receive the money, that is BS. If he asked you to confirm that you received the product before you received it. That sounds like a scam. If you only sent $50 and wanted to wait to send the $500 until you received the product. I understand him wanting to back out. I’m just confused

What did you buy

Wait I’m confused. so here is a breakdown of events per your post

  1. Price for item was agreed upon @ $550
  2. You immediately sent payment via paypal.
  3. Seller asks you to confirm the transaction?
  4. Seller wants you to send the money?

Did Paypal ask you to verify the transaction via text? I’ve had them do that a they sent a text verifying the transaction wasn’t fraud if that is what you are talking about.

Man, I thought I typed it well… I sent 550 immediately. He marked it as shipped immediately then wanted me to confirm that I received it. All 3 events occurred it a 10 minute span… He said he need led the money in order to ship it. That’s when I offerered to send 2 payments, bot h of which would be done within minutes

I sent 550 immediately. Then he immediately marked it as shipped… Before it was shipped, he wanted me to confirm that it was received with no problems. In not doing that…

No. Please read the the post I just did

Its really simple problem honestly. If the buyer is ever uncomfortable at all sending money friends and family. Then don’t. Move on and forget that mask. Sellers here already have to deal with teenagers on here private messaging them here wanting a $500 mask and wanting to trade for some tots crap, a pack of baseball cards, 3 sticks of bubble gum and their allowance of $5 when their mother gives it to them on Saturdays. And thats after the seller post no trades . So i don’t blame sellers wanting friends and family only one bit.

If it seems sketchy from the get go. Move on and put that money towards something else. This hobby is 40% good people and 60% scammers.

Just replying to what you said about teens trading crap and stuff for $500 masks. I am very young, but I can get a job at this point and will. Due to my age, it’ll have to be a minimum wage job like McDonald’s. so maybe I can slowly work up and get a ToTs Kirk and another H40, rehaul both, and when I get good enough, start doing rehauls for other peeps and get more money till I can get a NAG and join the cool kids club. Just my thoughts and I do agree that yeah, trading all that worthless junk (even if it’s a good looking rehaul of a ToTs mask) is not okay to trade a $500 mask, that’s pretty stupid.

Still looking for a NAG BTW, lol

Gotcha! Makes more sense now! Yeah that is kind of sketchy I guess. I wouldn’t confirm I received anything until I did but I also send all of my money up front.

Not really true. If people want to pay for the fees then it’s 100% reasonable for the buyer to want to do goods and services if they cover fees. That is the only way for a buyer to not get screwed out of their money and I’ve never had a circumstance where it asks me to confirm delivery so the seller gets there money. I always do goods and services and the seller always gets their money instantly. I just have an avenue if the product is not what I paid for or if I never receive it.

I did pay in full. Then he claimed he needed me to confirm delivery because he didn’t have the money to ship it :unamused: so then I offered to send 50 and confirm that so he could get the 50 immediately while still sending the 500 at the same time but not confirming. I was just trying to help dude out so we could make a deal, but the whole situation is funny IMO. I mean, who would be stupid enough to send a stranger 550 and give up your right to argue whether it was delivered, or even what you ordered! That’s a lot of money. I REALLY wanted this mask but the whole situation felt wrong. Thats a lot of money.

On top of it all, I have to wait a couple days for PayPal to refund my money. What a jerkoff

Can you tell us what the name of the member is so we all don’t have to deal business with this person? Thanks!

definitely sounds sketchy. glad you didn’t get ripped off

Sounds like a crappy deal man :unamused: Sorry you had to experience this

Yeah and what im saying is don’t send friends and family if your not sure about the buyer, or if he doesnt have alot of positive feedback here. Thats pretty clear. Buyers could always get the mask and say they never got it. Unless it was sent with signature confirmation there is no proof that the buyer actually got the mask. Just because the post man sits the package on a porch or at a front desk doesn’t mean that the seller is covered 100% and can relax. Thats why alot of senior members here say friends and family only. Cause like i also said 60% of this hobby is scammers. Once again, no one is forcing anyone to send friends and family, its the buyers option to do so, move on and order from tots or someone that takes payment goods and services. Ive lost a claim years ago by selling to a new member here and not getting it friends and family. It got delivered to him, but after a couple days he said he didn’t get it. That someone must have stole the package. Months later he got caught selling the mask on ebay. Lesson learned for me. Either get friends and family, or get signature confirmation.

Alright after reading your replies it makes sense now. Please post the member’s name. You paid through Goods & Services which is a MUST. He lied about not receiving the funds. He got them as soon as you hit send (as I said, only exception is new eBay sellers)

Then he marked it as delivered, asked you to do the same and likely expected to steal $550 from you. Please publicly out whoever this is so we can stay away from him. And as Wolfman said, never use Friends & Family. Thank God you got your money and didn’t get robbed by this idiot.
