Has had the most impact on you? Which one scares you the most, and just does it for you? For me, it’s H2 (1981). It’s the Myers that I always have nightmares about, and when I think of Halloween, and Myers, H2 is the first thing that comes to mind. H1 is a very close second!!
H1 because its the be all end all of horrors and movies for me in general and Ive been obsessed since seeing it as a kid. Michael in the original is THE shape. h1 Myers is the icon baby!;
and H4 because it was the first installment I saw in the theatres.
Most Impact?? Id have to say #4, only because its the first one i ever saw. The seen where they are trapped in the Sheriff’s house and Michael is walking up the stairs, then crush’s Brady’s neck like a coke can. As a kid that DID IT for me for sure. And ive been hooked on all the Myers movies ever since. My favorite will always be 1978 and Nick Castle, i love Nick as the shape. He will forever be my favorite Myers. And close after is #2 with Dick Warlock.
Cool post Whiteshark, cheers everyone

Before I was even into the Myers character, it was H1 and John Carpenter’s amazing score. I loved the music, simple, yet sharp as a needle. I remember as a kid covering my ears occasionally throughout, too scared to see what JC had in store with his stingers, cattle prods, and eerie music. Eventually, I loved watching others react to the music and sound effects and I still do, it’s always a treat to watch a newcomer watch H1 with the sound up. Music and sound effects create a huge percentage of atmosphere & mood in movies, video games, etc… having high quality work in that department is absolutely essential for a “classic”
The score is instantly memorable and never dulls, I listen to it all day every day in October and whenever I feel the mood throughout the year. It’s incredible, just like Danny Elfman’s score for Batman '89, it feels as if the universe aligned and the score & film were bonded together perfectly. JC wrote and directed, knew exactly what sounds he wanted, did them himself, and it’s perfect. I am here as a “Shape” enthusiast because of the score, it impacted me in so many ways as a movie enthusiast, musician, etc…
The original Halloween for me! From the opening scene, the filming, the story all the way to the perfect ending where Myers could be ANYWHERE! Horror perfection at it’s finest, forever imitated but never equalled.
Halloween II would be a close second due to the dark feel of the movie and the one and only Mr. Dick Warlock!
H1 all the way, I saw that in theaters way back when it came out, and I had to continue to sleep with the lights on for a few mor years after it. I’m 38 now, and was born in 71. I was 7 years old when that movie came out so I was 10 years old and still sleeping with the lights on… what first scared me was the theme, as soon as it came on and that pumkin, although simple and not so scarry today, scared the s**t outta me… Dean
I have to say Halloween 2 (1981) because the first time I saw it I got nightmares about Michael Myers, It’s dark all the time and it feels like Michael is everywhere. The atmosphere in this film is fantastic, really scares you! I like the beginnig of the movie when Michael picks up the knife in the Elrod house and then slowly walks over the garden to Alice’s house, I wanted more of that!
In my opinion the series should have ended with Halloween 2, I like some of the other Halloween films too but for me the original and Halloween 2 are the only real Halloween movies…
Im gonna have to go with H1. I had terrible nightmares after seeing this movie when I was a young kid. I had a few H2 nightmares also but “The Shape” in H1 did it for me lol.
Im gonna say this and never regret it. Its Definetly H2. I just remeber getting so scared. especially when Michael was chasing laurie through the hospital. I was practically hiding under the couch. I was even More terrified because when i saw H2, My mom was in the hospital. so i was always calling her and making sure mask man (as i called him when i was six) wasnt hurting her.
for me…H6…it was the first Halloween i saw in theatres and i remember the build up to it…i had alot of build up for H20 as well, but nothing will ever beat that first ever Myers experience on the big screen
Halloween 1978, had the greatest impact on me. I can still watch this film start to finish any day of the year, I love it. There is something about the film that just entertains me.
Oddly enough I think my favourite parts of the film are the day scenes, where the audience is introduced to the characters that live in Haddonfield and the community itself.
Id say its a toss up between one and two. They both go hand in hand with me and as a child I was scared and excited by both. I still think two is the most frightening though.
Great stories! Glad to hear your input!!
H2 for now…
The way DW stretched the mask and weathering gave it a more demonic look.
It no longer looked like a mask in H2…It became more part of Myers face
For years it’s been a toss up for me as well, but I have to say that Halloween II was the one that tortured my soul the most. It was the one I saw first, twice, before I saw the original film. I remember seeing commercials for it, and feeling a chill go down my spine when I saw Myers’ mask when he broke through the hospital door, and swiftly turned his head toward Loomis. UGGGGH. That creeped me out the MOST! A few months later I was with a buddy at his birthday party, and we went to a local haunted house/scary maze thing. It was 1986, and the place was playing the music from Halloween II outside while people waited in line. Man o man was I scared crapless! I then made it a point to see the second movie again, and try my darndest to see Halloween (1978) as well. I was 11, and it was difficult getting my mom to let me see it.
BTW, Kaizu ^^^^ Love your avatar! Manimal!
I was deciding if I should go with Automan but Manimal didn’t get the attention it deserved
it has to be the h2 for me as because the h2 mask look so sick and disturbing in a good scary way
On Saturday, October 30th, 1982, I was at my dads and he had SelecTv(anyone remember that?). They were running Halloween II. I saw the hot tub, needle shot, and the shape stabbing Lauries bed before my dad came in the room and turned it off. Those 3 scenes have scared me to this day. I saw it, and the original in their entirety a few years later but H2 is the one that does it for me. I’ve emailed Dick Warlock several times, and he always answers. I’ts cool to know the guy who scared me as a kid is a really nice guy. Happy Halloween everyone!
It would have to be the original Halloween for me. With Halloween 2 coming in a very close second There are just sooo many key scenes in H1 that have stuck with me to this day Great topic man!
