When I was 5 years old, I discovered KISS. And that was it. I was hooked. Even though they weren’t wearing masks. To a 5 year old kid, it didn’t matter. I just fell in love with masks. Then when I was 8 years old I saw Halloween for the first time. Seeing the mask in the phone scene mesmerized me. And that is when the Halloween obsession started.
You certainly don’t have a problem in addition to Myers I’m working on 1/6 Wolverine figures, Hot Toys Robocop, 1/6 James Bond etc. The quality of movie collectibles is amazing these days!
I never got to have any masks growing up unless it was those old school plastaic ones with rubber band attachments and nothing scary. So I’ve aleays wanted a cool mask. Mostly like Myers masks cause he’s my favorite
I have no idea. But if you go through family photo albums, from thevtine I was 5 years old, there are 2-3 in every book of me wearing a hockey mask. Maybe I was just one of those demebtef kids, I have no clue. But Im 31 and still love em
When I was younger, Scream was all the rage, and it was around this time that I first saw Halloween 1978, and I can remember going into stores back then around Halloween, seeing all the Ghostface Scream merchandise, and I instantly fell in love with the Ghostface mask. It was so iconic, like an instant classic, so I started buying all kinds of Ghostface masks, costumes, and other merchandise. Like I said, I also saw H1 for the first time around that time as well, and I was instantly hooked on Michael Myers. I HAD to have that mask. Sadly, I couldn’t find one so I just bought a cheap hockey mask, covered the holes with white tape, and drew eyebrows above the eye holes ha ha As time went on, I finally found a cheap Myers mask, so I was happy, even if it looked nothing like him. A couple years later, I bought a slightly more expensive Don Post mask that had hair (my first had rubber hair). I was pleased with it as well. Then in 2012 I saw the TOTS H2 and was blown away by the quality and accuracy, and knew I HAD to get it, so I did, and the rest is history
Seeing all these masked slashers, the masks left a deep impression for some reason. I love all props and FX work in horror and sci-fi but there’s something so visceral about a great mask.
Oddly enough I never wear any of the ones I’ve painted and have never cosplayed.
I was about three years old when I saw Halloween for the first time with my parents because they had rented it on video to watch. I absolutely loved it and got really into horror after that. I remember being so amazed by the masks of all the slashers I watched…I wanted to own props like those. I bought tons of don post and mass produced masks in the early 2000’s as a young kid but I had always wanted something way more accurate. I stumbled upon this site about 12 years ago and started discovering indie masks…I was hooked after that and the rest is history. I have always had an eye for detail and masks are like a fine piece of art to me…all unique in their own way and fun to collect.
Some one gave me a rubber latex Frankenstein mask when I was around 5 y.o. in the early 80s. It was blue and looked awesome from what I remember. That is my first memory of a mask. Probably molded me into the Halloween loving horror movie watching maniac that I am today!!
My first fascination with masks was with Scream. I remember watching Scream 1 at a young age and noticing the different masks used (KNB and Funworld) and went through various knock offs etc until I finally got my first genuine Funworld mask. I then watched H20 one Halloween, thinking it was gonna be the hockey mask ha ha. Then when I saw the mask something grabbed me. Something about the blank mask with hair was so different and creepy. being in the UK, store bought ones are hard to come by so I made my own Myers masks until I bought my first moulded hair DP lol. Ever since my collection has grown and become out of control. It was defo the Myers mask that made me serious about collecting.
I’ve always liked dressing up in costumes since I was little kid, there’s something about putting on a mask and pretending to be something you’re not that always appealed to me. I found a cheap hockey mask at a thrift store for a last minute Halloween costume one year and got a ton of compliments on it, despite how amateur my outfit was. Later I watched F13th part 3 at a sleepover and was instantly hooked on slashers.
I’ve loved Michael Myers since I was a kid and the idea of the evil behind the mask drew me in. I do collect other masks but I guess a big part of it has to do with the nostalgia of going to the Halloween store with my father as a kid and checking out all the cool masks they had to offer. I love collecting
And although expensive, it is definitely one of the healthier addictions to have better bring addicted to collecting masks than drugs or something like that
Honestly I love movie replicas and collecting things from my favorite films, like Michael Myers mask, Leatherface’s Chainsaw or Darth Vader’s Light saber. One of my favorite genera’s of film is horror and that means Masks for the most part. Plus I love to be able to wear them and pretend I am those characters
