Why Michael chooses the blank white mask theories?

Hi guys, I was just thinking about the Halloween franchise, and how each year for Halloween, Michael gets a new mask, but it’s always the blank, emotionless white mask of a man’s face. I wonder why he specifically chooses this mask. I think to find the answer, you have to go all the way back to Halloween 1978. When he first broke out, what do you believe drove him to specifically choose that mask? I don’t feel like it was a case of “oh he just grabbed it and left the hardware store without even thinking about it”, at least in my mind. If I had to guess, I would say he associates with it, as in, he himself is emotionless, so I would guess he feels “attached” to the mask, as though it was meant for him. Maybe that’s looking a bit too deep into it, but it could also explain why he immediately stops choking Laurie at the end of H1 when she pulls it off, and he quickly puts it back on, as though it was an astronaut’s helmet coming off while they’re in space, or a diver’s oxygen mask coming off while under the ocean. He NEEDS it. Just curious on what you’re guys’ thoughts are.

Some things don’t need overthinking is my opinion

I mean Michael is the creation of John Carpenter who wanted a ghostly white expressionless face. All there really is to it. Nobody knew it would be as symbolic as its become

He has to have mask to hide his ugly face. J/k Rember Robs film where little Michael was in the institution and his mom takes his mask off, he keeps wanting the mask back on.

I think he wears the white mask because that’s what Tommy Lee Wallace came up with.

The white mask is as empty as he.

Well said

That’s all they sold at the hardware store

Never thought of that, but it could be true

I want to extend this by asking another question that just came to mind. Let’s just say that one Halloween, Michael can’t find a blank white mask. What other mask do you believe he would choose? Obviously it doesn’t have to be a specific mask, just something generic like a mummy, skeleton, monster, werewolf, etc.

Well realistically speaking had Wallace not gone for Shatner it would’ve been Spock which is a bit more awkward with the elf ears lol. Theoretically, it could be anything. Just like him grabbing the Brute in 5; he just needed to cover his face. Personally, as a killer, I think he would have gone with whatever he could find lacking of emotion. A skeleton Myers would be interesting though lol

 It would!

Imagine Myers rocking a mask like that top white one. I can see him in a Purge style mask, it’s just hard to envision anything not completely white after all these years

Yeah man, I can totally see that. I was actually thinking a purge mask would work for Myers if done right. That, or one of those white art masks like this one ha ha

Clown mask or just wearing a panty hose over his head

Something like this maybe…

I always thought the blank emotionless face represented the lack of emotion when killing his victims, didn’t care one way or another about it.

Yes! I saw your shots, and immediately thought of how similar your mask is to the Myers mask in terms of the emotionless face.

I always thought it was because he saw something of himself in it: a pale, blank, emotionless face.

Heres my take…
So we have to remember a few things first. 1, he likes to play games with his victims, there’s a factor there that he enjoys scaring the shit out of them first before he eventually kills.

2, he wore a clown mask when he was young, because it’s what he had available, and figured he would scare his sister, only going the extra mile and killing her.

Flash to when he breaks out, goes into the hardware store, definitely wanting a mask, but happens upon the white face mask and figures to himself, “oh yeah this will scare the shit out of those babysitter bitches” …

So it’s as simple as that in my mind, because yes he’s emotionless, but he’s also a prankster, and enjoys scaring the shit out of the victims and toying around. He’s getting enjoyment from the scaring and stalking. So for him to walk in the hardware store and say to himself “oh yeah this will scare the shit out of them” seems to fall right into place for me. Then as for when his mask gets removed, he’s just thinking “bitch don’t touch the mask” puts it on and goes for the kill! Lol it’s honestly that simple for me in my mind.

So yeah, mask looked good for scaring the shit out of people, that was his thought on it! He stands around and lurks, making sure he’s spotted by the ones he wants to torment and scare. The mask is definitely a prop for scaring his victims, but also becomes an extension of himself so that he can go the extra mile and kill them when he’s done playing.

Might be a tad simple, but if we are talking about 1978 Myers, he is quite simple, which is much scarier. In his mind he’s just playing tricks, the killing doesn’t even register to him as a bad thing. Just the closure at the end of his pranking and scaring so he can move on to the next one.

And if we want to talk about him in the asylum for years, he just stares off into his own mind reliving what he did, and thinking how much fun he had playing a prank on Judith. So one night when things go bad and the patients are able to escape, he’s just thinking shit, I am going home and playing more pranks on girls! I rode in a car with my parents for 6 years so I think I got the concept of driving down! Not only a psycho, but a genius as well.

I have a 3 year old son who can definitely drive his power wheels around and park it and back up just like any good driver would, so why is it hard to believe he could figure it out if he observed his parents driving while in the car with them?

So yeah, just a prankster who loves scaring people, only he goes the extra mile and kills them to use the bodies to scare more people. He loves tricks!

So that’s my take on it!
