Your first Shape mask ..

There are so many myers masks available for purchase these days and a lot of them look really good ,some not so good but there are plenty of masks available to choose from. We all had to start somewhere, for me it was the Don Post " THE MASK " 85 edition back in 1988 and back then it was like the greatest feeling ever getting that very first Myers mask. I’m curious to hear from you guys what some of your first ever Myers masks were that started you in the hobby…and also what your favorite mask owned was or is … :pumpkin:

My first ever mask was a TOTS H2 that I attempted to rehaul myself. Unfortunately I was pretty bad at the time so its ugly as hell now. My second was the TOTS H18 which I repainted three times. Right now I’m content with how it looks, but would like professional rehaul in the future. My third and newest is a TOTS H1 which I also fixed up myself. It still has stock paint and hair and looks pretty good. In the future I plan on getting masks from every film when I have the money.

My first mask was a CGP St.Nick

Same here, Don Post “The Mask " 1985.
I graduated high school in 1985, and I can still remember that exact fall day in late September. I was hanging out over at a friends house when their newspaper came. There, on the front page was a large, black and white photograph of the local Costume Shop’s storefront widow, decorated for Halloween and full of masks. I had always loved monster masks so I was studying what they had…and then I just about had a heart attack when I spotted “The Shape” mask sitting amongst the other new masks in the photo–OMG!!! I HAD TO HAVE IT…NOW!!!
I ran to my car, zipped over there, heart ponding and praying they still had it the whole drive there! I walked in and was in luck, there it was, I grabbed it and bought it on the spot without giving a second thought to the $35 price tag. (Oooo. There went my gas money for the week)…but it didn’t matter. IT WAS MINE!!! I remember taking it straight home and trying it on in the dark bathroom with only the tiny nightlight in the wall socket lighting the mask. As I gazed at myself in the mirror, I’ll be honest, I was both ecstatic and a little disappointed at the same time. It was cool, but…something was off… and the thin latex was pretty stiff, especially around the eye cuts, not stretchy rubber like in the movie…and that’s when I noticed it—THEY PAINTED-IN THE FRICKING EYEBROWS! They were colored in brown, not all white, like I knew they were supposed to be! It made me so mad, I mean WHY? WHY?? Why would they do that???

Looking back on it, The Mask was far better than I gave it credit for at the time…and all this was still years before I would find out the terrible secret that the terrifying mask The Shape wore was actually just a tweaked Star Trek Captain Kirk mask (something still I wish I never knew, and which I am still not over :disappointed:)
But, I will always LOVE " THE MASK”
:hocho::jack_o_lantern:

My first was what many here lovingly refer to as “blue lips”

Mine is a ToTs H2 Deluxe from 2017. It has a lot of history behind it, and man do I love it! Been signed by Nick Castle and James Jude Courtney, and will never leave my collection.

Don Post the mask was my first, around 1989. Wish I would of taken care of it better, but I wore that thing out and then some. It was the greatest thing ever to me back then.

Ah. Those were the days. I among others also had an 80’s “the mask” when I was a child in the 80’s. It felt like total bliss trick or treating with that on. Even though it was cold outside I still didn’t mind the smell of the latex even though my nose and face were sweating underneath. The funny thing is that later on I watched horror movies at my aunt’s house and Halloween 3 was on. I remember thinking, where the hell is Michael ? (This was after H3 came out of course). LOL.

Your story is amazing brother and mine is actually quite similar to that. I bought mine in August of 1988 , I was still 15 at the time and was working my 1st real summer job so i had money to burn in my pocket lol i had just gotten hardcore into the Halloween movies the year before and was extra hyped now because Halloween 4 was about to be released in the theatres in a couple months. There was so much hype around The Shape coming back to the big screen I was super psyched and was determined to find a Myers mask to buy .funny thing is I didn’t even know the Don Post mask even existed at the time lol so on a Saturday when my parents were out my mission that day was find a Shape mask! Back then ofcourse we had no cell phones, no internet etc so I was calling different costume stores from the yellow pages in my area lol I lived in Brooklyn at the time and the 3rd store i called said THEY HAD THE MASK. i couldn’t believe it, I had to take 2 buses to get there , 1 hour trip, didn’t care!! I needed that mask!
It’s crazy because my 1st reaction when I saw it was wait wtf??
I was expecting it to look exactly like the movie and ofc it didn’t but ofc I bought it and couldn’t wait to get home. I weathered it up a bit fixed up thr hair , black screened out the eyes and honestly I loved that mask . I too wish I took better care of it at the time but I really wore the hell out of it for a few years. The Don Post THE MASK will always be special to me .

Hey that’s really cool and I like your work you did on those :pumpkin:

Great stories guys. Mine was also the DP '85 “The Mask”. I was stationed at Ft. Ord, CA during my Army days '84-'88 and happened upon it at a awesome shop in Cannery Row. It was one of those cool shops that had everything from masks to magic stuff. Being a die-hard Halloween fan since '78, I flipped when I saw it :open_mouth: I too could tell it wasn’t perfect but was like Heck… I guess I have to settle. Better than nothing. I also bought a cool Freddy Krueger mask at the same time. They also had a skin tone “The Mask” that I suppose was supposed to be Kirk but I passed on that one. I still have my '85 but it’s in rough condition  Oh…How far we’ve come huh?! :myers: :drinkers: From that to this…

Wow that’s an awesome story too …it seems we have quite a few old school veterans here and some new school young bloods posting in this thread lol and it’s true although the 85 THE MASK was far from perfect even for back then it was all we had and we made it work…and yes going from the DP85 to what u have now…yes its insane lol your pix are kaut sick bro! :fire::fire::fire:

My first Myers mask was my 2002 CS Resurrection mask. My first H1 mask was a 2018 NAG Castle 75K SE. Still own and love both of them, though the CS could use some touch-up.

My first Myers was a horrible Don Post 06. Once I got a Psycho I was hooked.

Lol that’s awesome

ToTS H2 Deluxe. First indie was an Obsession.

What do you think of the ToTS H2 deluxe?

It’s fucking big to the point of ridiculous. It’s still my biggest mask and I have quite a few masks now.

This is the one you have right ?
