Same here, Don Post "The Mask " 1985.
I graduated high school in 1985, and I can still remember that exact fall day in late September. I was hanging out over at a friends house when their newspaper came. There, on the front page was a large, black and white photograph of the local Costume Shop’s storefront widow, decorated for Halloween and full of masks. I had always loved monster masks so I was studying what they had…and then I just about had a heart attack when I spotted “The Shape” mask sitting amongst the other new masks in the photo–OMG!!! I HAD TO HAVE IT…NOW!!!
I ran to my car, zipped over there, heart ponding and praying they still had it the whole drive there! I walked in and was in luck, there it was, I grabbed it and bought it on the spot without giving a second thought to the $35 price tag. (Oooo. There went my gas money for the week)…but it didn’t matter. IT WAS MINE!!! I remember taking it straight home and trying it on in the dark bathroom with only the tiny nightlight in the wall socket lighting the mask. As I gazed at myself in the mirror, I’ll be honest, I was both ecstatic and a little disappointed at the same time. It was cool, but…something was off… and the thin latex was pretty stiff, especially around the eye cuts, not stretchy rubber like in the movie…and that’s when I noticed it—THEY PAINTED-IN THE FRICKING EYEBROWS! They were colored in brown, not all white, like I knew they were supposed to be! It made me so mad, I mean WHY? WHY?? Why would they do that???

Looking back on it, The Mask was far better than I gave it credit for at the time…and all this was still years before I would find out the terrible secret that the terrifying mask The Shape wore was actually just a tweaked Star Trek Captain Kirk mask (something still I wish I never knew, and which I am still not over )
But, I will always LOVE " THE MASK"
Lucky …paid 75.00 bucks in 85…took all my money I saved
1985 Don Post I bought in 85 and I still have it beat to shit but just can’t get rid of it.
Mine was the TOTS H2 face mask lmao, I wore it with coveralls and a hoodie underneath, so I looked like Michael Myers with a hood on. I thought it was so badass

Yeah, my first was a Don Post '85 The Mask, also. We’ve certainly come a long way since then.
I wish I had a picture but my first Michael Myers mask was the yellowish Paper Magic Group mask with the hair molded on. Honestly when I was younger that was all that was available. I was unable to obtain the pieces I have now. But at that time, my first Myers mask did the trick. What a long way we’ve come with this hobby my friends!
Mine was a wmp nightstalker. Kinda regret getting rid of it.

I was lucky enough to score a 2005 Nightowl Psycho by James Carter, my first ever Michael Myers Mask, and then my collection starts expanding from there.
Hey that’s not fair lol that’s like being born with a silver spoon in your mouth lol
GOD HOW I LOVE THIS ! What a great old photograph! It’s as VINTAGE HALLOWEEN as it gets, man! You must be so glad you still have it (and the rotted mask)!
My first Shape mask was the 2002 Cinema Secrets Resurrection mask. Sadly don’t have it any longer.
There definitely seems to be a split between the old school masks and the more newer ones …

This took me back…great story!! I miss those days!! My first myers mask was also a dp 1985. I still have it. I still love it as I did back then. It still gives me the same vibes as back then. : )
My TOTS H2 was an amazing first mask. Only thing, it was huge. I would turn my head and the mask would still be looking straight a head.

Oh it was definitely bad. I did some small work to it and used it outside on a mannequin for Halloween but it melted on me while in storage this year.
