It’s lasted about 9-10 years or so with no real care and keeping it in a storage container in the attic with the other Halloween decorations. This was the mask two years ago.
That’s really cool! I like seeing old Don post masks, sure they aren’t as good as what we have now, but it’s nice to see what it was like back in the day. Back then, this was the holy grail
Honestly it really was. " THE MASK " was really all we had rhat was readily available back in the mid 80s ,especially if u were a kid and back then it was all about what you saw in the store to buy. No ebay, no internet etc back then …like I said before the Don Post THE MASK was not screen accurate and very all that but if you had one back in the day you made it work I’ll always have an appreciation for that mask .
I think I mentioned it before but mine was a late 80’s DP the Mask. They did look good for what they were back then. It was the greatest thing ever to me though at the time and I wish I had taken better care of it. No it wasn’t as detailed, and the hair was questionable as well as the hair line, eye cuts, etc. but it was all I had and I didn’t care.
It only went downhill from there, with years of horrendous garbage popping up each year in stores, and the Don Post quality really went downhill too until those Kirk reissues hit, which “The Mask” also benefited from, then it fell off again. The indy scene started booming around that time and then of course about a decade later TOTS making the mass produced scene something to give a crap about again.
But for the time? It was the best thing ever next to my DP Vader mask, which also wasn’t accurate, but I didn’t care. The good old days man, the good old days.
Mike you really hit it on the head man and it’s so true the Son Post THE MASK really was all we had and like I said before yes the mask was far from perfect but we made it work lol Those were some fun times brother
Same but I also had one with molded hair before the Don Post The Mask one. I don’t remember who made it but I remember having to cut a slit further up the back and hole punch the top of it so it must have been pretty small. But yeah, as soon as I saw The Mask with the real hair… I had to get it!! It was about $60 if I remember correctly
