I know loads of people don’t want flashbacks but I think it will tie the movies (new films) and 1978 together IF done well. They have a good team. I wonder if they will film the shooting scene. From above in the reconstruction of the bedroom they made. I know it would of been destroyed but they could easily rebuild it and as long as they keep the blue tint and him in shadow flashbacks could work out ok as it’s all nighttime stuff even a little CGI if done in shadow and not under full light could look realistic.
Me also. I can’t see why it’s a big deal as John Carpenter once said “you know what the sequels don’t hurt the original” and that’s true. Look at all the things they have already done in the past and people go crazy over the idea of flash backs. I’d love to explore more of 1978
Dave McRae just posted an Excellent break down theory type thingy video in regards to these photos from the set… talking about camera angles And all that stuff… very good watch! And def calmed some of my nerves about these photos may I add!! Check it out on his YouTube page!
I watched that live, he was live streaming earlier and really tried to break it down the best he could. He doesn’t want to see fleshed out scenes, but personally I wouldn’t mind some fleshed out scenes as long as it’s done right and doesn’t remotely attempt to explain Michael or his story.
Not a fan of seeing him apprehended either, but I am ok with maybe the suggestion of it from a distance off screen. I could live with that. I do agree with McRae about keeping the mystery alive with Michael. Less is definitely more.
I just watched that video this morning. I really like Dave McRae’s channel. He’s obviously knowledgeable about the industry and he couples that with his passion for Halloween. Always makes for a good watch/listen.
I’ll have to say that I do disagree with him here. I think it would be a “treat” to go back to that night and see more, however not necessarily him captured or stumbling off the lawn into an alleyway after taking six slugs. I think it’d be cool to see more like what we see pictured above…MM interacting/stalking other folks.
Dave does make a good point though as this scene is more than likely after he’s been shot because we all know that Michael was mostly in the Wallace house before his interaction with Laurie. My only thought is that this could possibly be after he parked at the curb and watched Lindsay’s parents leave. There is some time from then until he’s gawking at Annie through the window while she’s talking to Paul.
Fun to speculate nevertheless.
EDIT: Another item I see differently than Dave on, is the tracking shot. He was more thinking of a tracking shot from Laurie/protagonist’s point of view. He describes it more in his sequel concept video (highly recommended btw!)
I think the tracking shot with MM was such a big hit with H18 that it needs to come back and maybe even longer. Definitely cut out the music though…keep it like the opening of H2 (81)…just the ambient night noises, kids laughing in the distance, rustling wind/leaves…super creepy.
I agree about the steady tracking shots. Definitely need more of that. I loved it in the 2018 film, but it was hampered a bit by having the Halloween theme play over it. It didn’t ruin it for me or anything, but it would of been PERFECT if it was just the ambient noise of the night. Or, if they had to have some sort of background music, then just that long high pitched drone, the one when young Michael in 1963 is lurking outside the house, lightly going in the background would of worked great as well.
That second trailer that opens with that shot was exactly how it should of been, it was perfect in that trailer. Then when I went to see the movie and heard the theme play over it, I was a little bummed about it. I love Carpenters score, love it, but that was an out of place moment to have that music. The high pitch drone would of been so much better.
To be fair, Carpenter did that a bit in the original film, such as when Michael is at the school and starts following Tommy. The theme starts playing there as well and always felt off to me. Another place where the high pitch drone would of been a better choice. In my opinion of course. All in all, still a great shot.
I hope they do more widescreen shots this time around than close ups. Never been a fan of close up shots. Prefer to see the surroundings as it adds to the over all feel and atmosphere
