He most likely was out of the truck as it was at a phone booth so he might of got out to ring his wife to say I’m going to be late home weather is bad and Michael Then attacks and he might put up a fight yes he doesn’t need to be showering but I’m just saying there could be more to it than just he got killed in his truck he was killed at a phone booth so he most likely stop there to make a call
I like that idea, but the only problem is Loomis also used that phone, so two have two different characters stopping off at the same location and both using the same phone would look silly on screen.
We fans love to prop up the visual aesthetics of the original Halloween, but as somebody from rural Illinois, the movie doesn’t have a very strong autumn Illinois vibe. Everything is bright green, and there’s cacti as landscape decorations. A few fake leaves and some painted gourds does not an Illinois October make.
Rob Zombie had problems filming in the original locations as the locals were not too happy about it if I remember rightly from his awesome epic documentary. I doubt the studios wanted to go through all that again.
I think my main gripe with these latest movies is the lack of attachment to the original ( or even the first three movies, which I think capture the best atmosphere and vibe), it’s great to see Michael Myers look like Michael Myers, it’s amazing to have John Carpenter score the music, it was cool to have Jamie Lee Curtis back… but the whole feeling, atmosphere, vibe, loss of Dean Cundey’s cinematography, the kill count over tension… yeah, it’s not perfect.
They are, to me, the best thing I could have asked for after the awful H8 and the Rob Zombie movies. I’m happy with what I’ve got so far, it could have been much better, but it could have been incredibly worse ( especially if they carried on with the Rob Zombie series, jeez.)
I’m happy we have “OG Myers” on the screen, it’s just a shame instead of all the constant homages to previous movies they could have done more to make it feel more like the original movie. Mirroring scenes from the original does not count, I did not like that. They just went pure slasher route, which is pleasing some ways, but I’m still waiting for the “definitive” sequel to the original Halloween ( well, we have it in Halloween II '81, for me, won’t be topped.)
H4 has a great atmosphere, it is different to the original three movies, but I do enjoy it. It captures the Halloween feel. I would love someone to deepfake Myers from the original or H2 onto the Myers from H4. I don’t mind the mask, but it would be great to see the original mask in Halloween 4… and some of Myers’ body shots were shockingly awful. Great Halloween movie though.
To keep in topic, I do find the atmosphere and vibe lacking in DGG’s Halloween movies so far, you can’t just show some decorations and create that “feeling”. There’s bits and bobs here and there but they seem to be concentrating on Michael Myers the Killing machine, rather than The Shape from the original movie. And that’s frustrating because we have all these Halloween movies of Michael Myers the killing machine, it kinda makes Halloween 2018 pointless if you’re just gonna put him back where we were before. The idea should have been to use the Myers from 1978 and build on that, not just reinstate Myers into what makes him “just another slasher”.
I say this with 100% sincerity … I LITERALLY would have rather gotten RZH3 over H’18 and HK. I hate these new ones with a fiery passion. They were able to bring back Curtis AND Carpenter (so the potential was there) and then they squandered the living hell out of it and made the most mundane and cringeworthy movies possible. For as terrible as the writing is in RZH/2 I legit feel like it’s even worse in H’18/HK .
Preach!
I’ve only ever been to Chicago so I don’t really know what rural Illinois looks like but I’m sure it doesn’t look like Pasadena and West Hollywood.
But even so, that wasn’t my main concern. I remember the two things that took the wind out of my sails the fastest was 1) they were ignoring HII, and 2) they weren’t shooting in LA. All of the excitement I had from the announcement of JLC’s return practically went out the window with that news. It’s too bad because filming in LA and making it look as close as possible to H1 would have been a redeeming quality I could have gotten behind.
I thought Halloween Kills was a huge step down from Halloween 2018. It feels like a bunch of short films strung together that don’t connect that well. There are so many characters and so many deaths that it all feels kind of meaningless. The legacy characters were mostly wasted. The movie has virtually no suspense or atmosphere. There is nothing ghost-like about Myers. He just shows up and kills people.
One of my main issues with the movie is that the characters behave in incredibly stupid ways. I know it’s a slasher and characters making dumb decisions is to be expected, but there are too many in this movie. Examples:
The drone lady unlocks her door and was about to leave, but after unlocking it she just stays inside and lets Michael kill her.
When Karen is worried about Michael coming to the hospital because Laurie is there, Allyson doesn’t tell her that Michael wasn’t targeting Laurie and that it was Sartain who orchestrated their reunion. Why didn’t she reveal this to her mom?
The woman dressed like a nurse had a gun but ran away and let her husband get murdered before running back to shoot at Michael. Why did she run away? Why did she wait so long to come back? She could’ve shot at him immediately.
When Little John discovers the dead body of Big John, he doesn’t leave the house or try to fight Michael. He just says “Michael, you’ve come home,” and lets Michael murder him.
Lonnie is convinced that Michael is in the Myers house, but instead of getting some of the other mob people to help, he goes in there alone and is immediately killed. What a waste. I liked Lonnie but he was underutilized and dispatched in a pretty stupid way.
When Allyson and Cameron go up the stairs of the Myers house and discover the bodies of Big John and Little John, Allyson sets her gun down, pulls a knife out of one of the dead bodies, and just stays there with them for no reason while Cameron leaves and gets attacked by Michael. What was she doing? She knows Michael is most likely in the house but she just stares at a couple corpses for no reason.
When Karen stabs Michael with the pitchfork, she throws it down and steps on his head instead of continuing to stab him with the pitchfork. Then she takes his mask off, knowing that he’s alive, and tries to lure him away from the house. So basically, she puts Allyson’s life at risk by hoping Michael will follow her and not kill her daughter, whereas a few seconds ago she could’ve easily killed him, or at least severely injured him.
By the way, was it the mob’s plan to send Karen to the Myers house to lure Michael to them? It seems so because they’re all ready and waiting when he shows up. If so, that’s a terrible plan. Why not just have all of them go to the Myers house to confront Michael?
When the mob beats the crap out of Michael, I don’t believe that Karen would walk away without seeing him die. After the three Strodes failed to kill him in the fire at Laurie’s house, it makes no sense for Karen not to stay and make sure he dies this time.
This script just isn’t very good in my opinion. The plot, the dialogue, the character choices… it’s actually embarrassing how this movie turned out considering Halloween 2018 was decent and from the same team. Neither film has any real suspense but the 2018 film felt competently made. I really hope Halloween Ends will salvage this trilogy.
I’ve lost all excitement for Halloween as it feels nothing like the original and blumhouse been cheap go for wherever there’s a tax break for them hardly film art more just milk the cow
I can’t get down with the weathered mask look. It was tolerable in 2018 but idk why lost all interest lately. I’m starting to think they shouldn’t make anymore sequels. If anything maybe a reboot with a different story line but same vibe as original
Hear me out;
A halloween 78 remake after ends…
airon armstrong as myers
to get away from a cliche shot for shot remake, Add thomas mann’s story (young hawkins)
End of the movie shows JJC as a young michael clean shaven with curly tony moran hair being sentenced (this is after being captured like the end of the flashback in kills)
another halloween…another JJC portrayel…thatd be fire
I like this idea. I just wish they hadn’t mentioned Myers did indeed only kill 5 people (3 on that Halloween night) if they had left that part out of H40, then after he fell from the balcony we could have seen him stalk and kill more people the rest of that Halloween night.
I really agree with what you said, in terms of a well-written film with suspense, Halloween Kills falls short. I thought 2018 was a better movie like you said. It really felt more like fan service to me, BUT I am glad we have another Halloween movie and will cherish that moment!
I totally agree it’s a shame they mentioned the death count as they could of done another few movies set that night where he goes off stalking other people even if it was one movie it would of been great
