I’ve heard that there is original 1978 footage in one cut someone saw another person told me at there showing there was no 1978 footage used . I do hope they use a little. In the 2018 film they did use pointless footage of the death of Judith Myers I’d rather they showed a very quick load of clips of Laurie and her horror to show why she’s so obsessed about this person decades later as I know of people that have never seen the original so would have no real idea of what Laurie went through and made her so unhinged
John Carpenter made a mistake by saying we didn’t need to see 1978 “let the audience work it out” well thankfully they in the sequel saw sense and didn’t pay any more attention as that was the wrong advice. I’ve met the man and he only cares about money! He said that as well. He just wants a payout! He denied h2 by saying he was drunk! I’m glad his doing the music but I think he should never have any other input in to the series (he only saw it as one film of course) than the music!
The thing about going back to the original that I was very worried about was that it would serve zero purpose. The version they were doing for H18 didn’t really serve much purpose other than ‘let’s just do something a bit different and have some fun’, which, in and of itself is fine. But in Kills, thankfully, so thankfully, it actually serves a purpose. There’s a reason to go back to 1978 and uncover/watch what happens as it not only expands on the original in a really nice way, but ties into the new trilogy perfectly and it’s themes.
I agree with everything Chris said by the way, especially on the ‘fan service’ part. Everything from the past that is included here is there for the story.
I know what happens in the new film and think the idea works. John was always against revisiting 1978 in any form he said so himself. I’m glad the new scenes connect the movies together that’s what I’ve wanted all along to tie the films together so this can be looked on as a decent timeline and people that want to watch h2 then h20 can also . 2018 Halloween never felt like
It tied up the lose ends I’m so glad this one does as I emailed ryan turek and blumhouse over and over
About this… funny enough ryan said “what do you want a cgi loomis” haha
Does anyone else find it a bit odd that Judith Meyers’ character is never really elaborated on throughout the series? They never talk about what she was like and the relationship she and Michael had.
In fact, they never even talk about what Michael was like before he murdered Judith.
Universal is now proposing to release films in theatres and via VOD at the same time. Now AMC and Regal are both boycotting Universal and are threatening not show show any of their films.
I was just saying a few days ago that studios should go this route. Looks like Universal is going through with it. Guess we will have to wait and see if more studios join in doing the same or of Universal backs down.
This is both good and bad news. The good news is, with Universal releasing new movies through theatres and VOD at the same time, it pretty much secures that Halloween Kills will not be delayed. The bad news is we might not be able to watch it in theatres, if AMC and Regal are boycotting.
They’re not going to go through with it. Universal needs the theatrical model, PVOD is not sustainable, especially at the prices Universal is releasing them now, hence why you don’t see them raving about how TIM or The Hunt did, because they failed. If Universal ever wants to make a 200M+ return on a Halloween film again, you better believe it won’t be going to PVOD, and the same goes for any of their major blockbusters. Say what you want, but theaters are how they make the most of their revenue. The only reason why people shelled out so much for Trolls is because they’re stuck in the house with kids. Not that many people are going to rent a Rated R Halloween film long term for 48 hours, it’s just not sustainable.
On the contrary, theaters also need Universal. I doubt any other studio will back Universal though, so Universal and the theaters are going to have to figure it out before September, because theaters (especially AMC which is on the verge of bankruptcy, hence why they’re annoyed at Universal for getting cocky) need those big blockbusters to drive customers to them. You think they’d genuinely skip out on showing Halloween Kills, No Time To Die, F9? They’re both just acting out right now, but I’m sure they’ll be sleeping next to each other again come this summer. They need each other.
I’m not saying to release it VOD only. And Universal said themselves that they would release films VOD and theatrically AT THE SAME TIME.
So it’s not like there wont be any theatrical distribution. Unless AMC and Regal really go through with the boycotts.
But if other studios follow Universal, will AMC and Regal boycott them too and show nothing?
You also have to remember that theatres will not be able to be at full capacity even when they open. Social distancing will be a thing for a long time. So it’s not like ticket sales will be all that great. This is why Universal is trying to do both, so that they can make as much as they can by catering to those who want to see their movies in theatres, and to those who are too afraid to go out, even after everything opens again.
So it only makes sense for Universal (and other studios) to release their films theatricaly at the same time as VOD
And I’m saying, that they’re not going to do that with Halloween Kills. The theatrical window could be shortened, but they’re not going to put Kills in theaters and On Demand at the same time. They’ll delay it a year before they do that. Universal specifically said they were thinking about it ‘when it makes sense’, there’s a reason why they have no problem delaying their big hitters that’ll make a huge killing at the B.O. If October comes around and theaters aren’t open or are opening at a very, very, very limited capacity, Kills won’t be coming out at that time.
They’re not going to put a potential 200M+ blockbuster horror film in theaters and VOD at once, unless they plan on charging $40+ for 48 hours, and people are already complaining about the $20 price point as is. It’s just not going to happen.
I’ve never had/did VOD. But if it’s $40 for 48 hours, and you can watch it as many times as you want? VS $20 movie ticket plus $10 food/drink and watch it one time only?.. then I’m doing VOD in my ow house, with my own food, my own beer, and watch it as many times for the full 48 hours
Ehhh, I don’t think so. I think if they do day-and-date release, studios are going to jack up the prices if big blockbusters were on the cards, but you could be right!
I just don’t see them doing it but honestly, what do we know?
