I can’t believe I’m getting involved with this but I’m utterly perplexed…and Hollywood Morgan is a good guy and doesn’t deserve these attacks…so let me get this straight…
- Justin sells Gary the ORIGINAL, ONLY MASTER…but Gary steals it and never pays for it…
- Gary sells 2 “master copies” from that to Chad and Andrew
- Chad and Andrew sell their “master copies” to Nik
- Morgan is looking to buy the ORIGINAL MASTER, THE ORIGINAL MASTER, from Gary
- Morgan is WILLING TO MAKE IT RIGHT by contacting Justin and paying Justin what is truly his on top of paying Gary who stole it
- Nik has admitted to buying the “master copies” from Chad and Andrew which he knew came from GARY and knows that GARY STOLE THE ORIGINAL
- Nik believes that because he paid for stolen goods, knowing or unknowingly, he is in perfect rights of being the sole owner as he paid a lot of money for them…
Gary still has the ORIGINAL MASTER MOLD to which Morgan might be purchasing…and so Morgan doesn’t own stolen property he is willing to pay Justin too…but he is in the wrong because Nik bought other “master copies” that were made by Gary who stole from Justin to begin with…
Well, according to laws, if you buy stolen goods you’re just out of luck, you have no rights to them whatsoever…and it sounds like Nik’s masters are copies of the original mold Gary still has anyway…and if I’m not mistaken, Gary has sold at least 2 other “master molds” to people out there as well…
Saying that “if it’s not signed by Justin you have no rights” doesn’t fly either…as it is stolen property…
Nik, if you want to make the Nightmare all yours, you need to get that original from Gary, contact Justin, and PAY JUSTIN WHAT IS OWED HIM…otherwise, it’s just stolen property and you have no claims to any “rights” no matter how much you might have paid for “the masters and rights”…and you stated that “if anyone had told me before I bought them…”…well, it’s not our responsibility…I doubt you asked anyone like Morgan is doing here either…and I doubt you contacted Justin after knowing the masters you were buying both came from a person who is completely untrustworthy and ripped a lot of people off…
Just my 2-cents, I refuse to get caught up in any drama here nor cause any…I’m just trying to get things straight in my head…

Knowing or unknowingly being in possession of stolen property is illegal…if I paid some guy for the original Mona Lisa, never bothered to ask where he got it, is it rightfully mine because “I didn’t know it was stolen” …“I never read a newspaper, no one in the world ever took it upon themselves to know I was going to buy it and call me and tell me I was buying stolen property”…so I blame the strangers of the world for not warning me in advance, or blame others because I didn’t take the time to research or ask questions my self?? The Nightmare was a RECAST of the 1975 Kirk, but some people seem to think it’s fine because the mask was “out of prod” thus, fair game.
Bullshit, it’s not fair game to recast ANYTHING regardless of what it is, or how long it’s been out of prod. Period.
Justin never owned the rights to the Kirk, thus he shouldn’t have recasted shit either. Some people here are bitching about “Well, Justin deserves this or that” because why exactly? Because Gary Philips ripped him off? No, incorrect my friends. Did Justin plan to profit share with Don Post? The answer your looking for, is no. No he didn’t.
We are ALL IN POSSESSION of recasted material, based on OTHER artists work. And by other, I mean Don Post Studios and the various other true rights holders like MMI etc. It just seems we’ve become selective on who he choose to call out on this issue. Well, I’ll save you all the trouble, we’re ALL guilty. Apparently none of you in this thread understand the legalities surrounding “Intellectual Property Rights” violations. Look it up MM.net family, look it up. We’d all be sued for being in possession of stolen property.
And Nik, you know I love ya to death, I really do. You have talent like NO OTHER in this hobby. But, no matter how much you paid for the molds, it’s still technically stolen proptery as Justin never got his money for the masters that you have in your possession. Now, going further back, Justin really had zero rights to recast the Kirk in the first place, so in the end we’re all wrong for buying it/selling it etc.
If Trancas really wanted to spend the coin on a trial, every mask maker NOT under license, could easily be sued and would lose horribly. Even those like Nik who sculpt from scratch, could easily be sued and would lose. Why? Because Michael Myers, that image, masks etc are all copywritten. Call it whatever name you want i.e H78, Warlock, KH etc. Intellectual property rights are being violated simply because of the characters likeness being used to make money from each individual movie.
Stop fighting about it, all of you. You’re ALL guilty just as I am for buying these masks. Picking and choosing who to attack is pointless. Nobody will win and none of you have valid rights to anything Michael Myers related what-so-ever.
