I just got the 78 knife in the mail from tots. Should I keep it shiny or take sandpaper to it?
https://imgur.com/a/952i1CP Hello everyone, I was wondering if I could get some constructive criticism on the rehaul I did on my TOTS 78. This is my first time working with a latex mask. (Ignore the bag poking through the eye)
It looks pretty good, only thing I can think is to make the flesh tone a bit more subtle and not around the entire neck of the mask. Mostly under the chin area and outward a bit. Another thing with the hair is to seperate all the fibers before styling. Once mostly seperated, I would flatten as much as possible and style from there using many reference photos. You can also swirl and wet it to get it a matted look. You can also fix the hairline by pulling the front down and using liquid latex to cover the stock hairline. A good weathering technique is to spray the mask with a bit of water and lightly applying watered down black/brown paint. Let it sit for about 30 seconds to a minute then wipe away with a towel. You might also be able to apply better glue lines than the ones sculpted in with actual glue. But again so far so good. I’ve only done the TOTS 78 once but this is kinda what mine looked like. Also if your looking for the best H1 mask for a low price I would recommend the TOTS Kirk as it’s a really good mold and can be real screen accurate when converted properly.

How can I make my tots Shape hairline like the boogeyman? It’s a little too sharp and obvious. Needs to be softened up a bit. I’m thinking maybe getting some brown latex paint and airbrushing or dabbing the edge with a t shirt. I really want to avoid taking off the hair because I already tried with the boogeyman and it is IMPOSSIBLE.

You can use rubber cement or tacky glue and fold the hairline over, covering the original hairline.
I found my h40 hair impossible to remove.
I used lacquer thinner (or if your in the UK like me then its Cellulose thinner) brushed it over the glue and left it to soak for 5 - 10 mins and it came up much much easier
I only worry that the fold over will make it look too fro-ish,as I’ve seen on some. I might try the popsicle stick method on Nick M’s DVD. Just got some liquid latex and some craft sticks. Gonna pace myself on this one
It’s what I did to mine and I don’t think it turned out that’s way. I do have a b of a poof on top, but I styled it that way.

That actually looks pretty good. I just used my finger and some liquid latex though. My goal was just to get rid of that headband look and it seems to have done the trick. Although I will be much more conservative with the liquid latex next time. That stuff is no joke lol. I’ll post some better photos after after I learn to style the hair properly.

Yep that’s how I fixed the hairline on mine. Works great. You have a nice copy there man.
Yeah I saw it in the Spirit by my house and had to pick it up. This is actually my 2nd copy. I sold my first last year just before Halloween and wore the 2018 instead. This copy is much better than my first. I will be wearing this one for Halloween 2020!

Hi everyone. I just bought a TOTS 1978 mask. I have never rehauled a mask and I am no artist. For now at least, all I want to do is to get rid of the shine. I want to keep the white color, but without the shine. I will think about doing more than this another time or pay someone to do a full rehaul, but for now I would be very happy to do nothing except to get rid of the shine. I hope that doesn’t sound dumb and I am hoping that it won’t be very difficult. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
A light wash with watered down acrylic paint would definitely get rid of shine but may dull the white slightly. Depends on your preference. If not try some matte coat spray.
