Hello, longtime lurker and first time poster. I’ve ran into a bit of a problem and could use some help. Yesterday, I was forced to abandon an attempted self-rehaul of a TOTS Boogeyman after screwing up both the paint and the eye cuts. (New to this, so mistakes were to be expected. Still frustrating as hell.)
However, I don’t have alot of spare time this month to correct either mistake. I know one could seal the damaged eye cuts and strip or redo the paint, but I said to hell with it and ordered a second Boogeyman from Collector’s Row. And rather than another attempt on my part with the time crunch in mind, as I’m gonna be busy with work for a majority of the month, I thought I’d throw out a line to someone more experienced than me to tackle it.
I know it’s already October and the rehaul for the Boogeyman is fairly uncharted territory, but I’m desperate. If anyone could point to someone that could aid me and covert the second into a proper H1 before Halloween, if that’d even possible at this point, I’d be grateful for the help.
I agree the mask could use a few tweaks, but if your concerned about what it will look like on Halloween night, or a Halloween party, I wouldn’t be too concerned if your in low lit environments.
Here’s a few photos of my Boogeyman, and the only mod I did to it is the mouth slit and styling of the hair. Everything else is stock. So as you can see, in low light and shadow, it almost needs nothing done to it. I personally think it’s one of their best masks yet for a stock $60 dollar mask.
A rehaul this close to Halloween probably won’t get back to you in time. But hopefully looking at these photos of it in low light and shadows, eases your concerns about how it would look. Then after Halloween get the rehaul. I really highly doubt anyone will be able to turn it around in time for Halloween at this stage.
Is there any way to fix the eyes on this mask? Everything looks great but there’s just something off about the eye cuts. They seem to stick out to far. The Psychos have this problem too.
This is a photo of Elrod rehaul by James Carter. I’m guessing he lengthen the eye cuts towards the nose and fix the sharp cut more rounded. Either way, just follow this pic, hope you can fix it
any mixture should be 50/50 however if that’s too thick for your airbrush split the acrylic with water. Some people just use water and liquid latex. Some of the newer paints such as Night Shades really dont require any water, so it depends on the acrylic paints thickness your using. Hope this helps.
I’m having trouble getting basically any detail out of my h40. Some say do a thin coat of white then a black wash so the paint gets into the cracks and then wipe it off but that hasn’t been working at all. Some say you need to dry brush the cracks first and then paint white but i don’t understand that. Do you carefully paint white around each crack? That seems extremely time consuming. Please help!
oh you have no idea how time consuming it is, now you know why it take weeks and months for artists to finish their H40 rehauls orders. If you’re trying to find a shortcut, i guarantee it won’t look right. The way i do it is that i “painted the mask with white base and I paint all the cracks individually after that”, so it’s not painting the white around the cracks. You paint the mask white first and then paint the crack. Forget the black wash technique, it’s not gonna work
For anyone who wants to rehaul the hair of their ToTs 78, here’s a tip about fixing the glueline from a peep who did it. First, if you want to hide that glueline, use a paint brush and put some liquid latex on the left side of the glueline first, then pull the hair directly above it down onto the glueline. Do this, but with the center of the hairline and then then the right side. Make sure to really be careful with the liquid latex, and use a brush that you might not use much.
After I nearly destroyed my mask with rehaul, I went with naphtha and tried to remove any of it. After 2 weeks I started my another rehaul. Here’s the result:

Hey guys, Heath Johnson here…Wanted to let everyone know that I will only be taking H40 rehaul commissions until the end of the year. I’ll be moving on to devote more time to my own sculpts in 2020. Quick little tip on rehauling a 78, boogeyman, or converting a Kirk. If u can get ur hands on a can of streaks and tips hair color spray. You can mist the hair black then style it, u will get some black on your hands which you then can use to weather the mask in the places where it would be touched. Nose, bottom of the neck, inner parts of the eyes etc. Then seal the mask. I’ve done this and it looks pretty cool. I got the streaks and tips on eBay.
If I’m going to rip off the front layer of hair on a ToTS 87, what’s the consensus on what to stick it down with? Glue or liquid latex? I’ve never actually used liquid latex before but I’ve seen people use both in here. If glue, what kind of glue should I be looking for?
I’m thinking of ripping it off, and folding the existing glue line under and sticking that down. Reckon that’ll work?
most use clear tacky glue. And for the hair just rip the front hair line off and cut off the flat pieces that attach it to the mask. Then you dont have to fold it over at all. Just reglue it a bit at a time. Hope this helps.
