Won’t happen, JLC will find a way to get involved again, so they need to kill her off again like Resurrection, I wish Resurrection got remade, and they bring back Brad Loree and his Myers look, only they keep the eyes completely blacked out this time
I feel… exceptionally hurt and gutted by the existence of Ends right now. I feel like I wasted my money at the box office… 25 dollars… down the drain. For a mediocre and poorly written piece of “Haddonfield Fanfiction”. Halloween 2018 did everything right for being a sequel to the original, a direct one at that. It’s perfectly self-contained, and I feel that the film being linked to this trilogy only hurts it. Kills was brutal, gory fun. Not what I want out of Halloween, but I understand how it could appeal to some people; hell, Doctor Wolfula managed to make me appreciate both '18 and Kills as they are a little more… this? This travesty doesn’t appeal to me… it angers me… it hurts me…
There were good concepts to toy with imo: the idea of Evil changing shape, infecting others, of Haddonfield getting new ghost stories to tell through the 2018 rampage Michael left behind, of Laurie and Allyson trying to move on… but it all falls fucking flat because it feels less like a Halloween movie, and more like… someone who just wanted to put in their OC into Halloween… Corey Cunningham is a garbage, whiney, self-entitled nerd that goes on a killing spree because a small town that’s still mourning couldn’t get over fear and paranoia? Allyson becomes the equivalent of the chick from Twilight in being attracted to someone who was putting up clear red flags?! Why is everyone in Haddonfield suddenly dicks BUT Hawkins and the Strodes?!
What happened? How did this end up somehow being WORSE than Halloween: Kills? How did this end up being as BAD as Halloween: Resurrection, or Halloween 5? How did DGG and DMB get lightning in a bottle with '18, and then stumble through the rest of this trilogy that they supposedly WANTED?!
Long time Halloween fan here. As I see it, the Halloween franchise is like a peacock (har har) plumed with iridescent feathers that shift and sparkle with varying degrees of color, depth, and darkness. Each film is a morsel of horror goodness and guilty pleasures, and there is at least one catered to and representative of each fan or potential fan.
That being said, regarding Halloween Ends…I loved it? I can’t believe I’m feeling and admitting this, but it’s true. Mind you, like many others, I read the spoilers and knew the entire plot going in. Frankly, I expected to hate it. Much to my surprise, however, I was swept up by and totally engrossed in it. I still can’t quite articulate why, though I will say the acting, music, and production quality were aces.
I will also say this: Although Michael is annihilated by the story’s end, I left the film feeling that a profound statement had been made regarding evil, both within and around us, and its ability to “change shape”–a great and apropos turn of phrase by Laurie. Consequently, I can’t say that I left this film fully believing that Michael and the transcendent evil he symbolizes were vanquished for good.
Halloween Ends is somber, tragic, creepy, and permeated by the sense that the evil Michael embodies–perhaps his actual soul or spirit-- will continue to infect, haunt, and kill others. I find it interesting and telling that his death prior to the decimation of his body subtly mirrors a crucifixion… Did he transcend his body before being strapped to the hood of that car, finally freed from the limitations of the flesh only to haunt and terrorize Haddonfield and beyond as a vengeful and lethal specter?
Thanks! I tweaked it a bit before seeing your response. This is an entry I feel I can watch more than twice, too. I plan on rewatching the trilogy tomorrow.
Lastly, I loved the final showdown between Laurie and Michael. He got her good a number of times, and even though I knew how it would end, I was pumped.
Fans hating on this film and the trilogy should rest assured: There will be more films.
I managed to avoid spoiling it for myself and ultimately enjoyed the finale showdown. In Kills, Michael felt more like Jason to me. In Ends, Michael felt like only one element of the evil in this film, almost like he had truly infected the town of Haddonfield. That was kinda cool.
It’s a poorly executed movie. I see where they were trying to go but it just doesn’t work. Jamie did awesome and I like where that went. Myers just standing in the sewer for 4 years…just hanging out. I just don’t get Myers being beaten up by this kid. That and, Myers now having the ability to look into one’s soul. I won’t go into that atrocious ending either. If you live or lived in Illinois, I did, Haddonfield is basically Decatur and not the little town I always imagined. Like a lot of movies that try stuff at the very end to make things interesting, this fails…like all the rest. It’s just a difficult movie to swallow. And, I can officially say, the series ended with Halloween II.
Absolutely. In a sense, the film expanded the breadth and scope of the Shape’s influence to both mythic and mystical levels without being too specific, allowing him to remain mysterious.
I respect your opinion and can empathize. But I liked it. In the first two acts of the film I saw Michael as pure evil truly on its last leg. I almost got the sense that Michael wasn’t even really there in the sewer—like that whole setting was a giant metaphor. Of course Michael ultimately comes back and what happens happens. But I got the sense that had it not been for Corey and his personal trauma and vulnerability, Michael may not have returned.
This^. I avoided spoilers and knew nothing of the plot other than the copycat killer thing going in and I really enjoyed it. I think the actor who played Corey did a great job. The Arney Cunningham vibe was interesting. I think it’s a cool movie, there were definitely some moving scenes. I feel like maybe a lot of people that are triggered about Ends would also be complaining if it was more of the same old same old. Props to DGG for completing his vision. Light years better than the silly Thorn cult crap in my opinion.
Ha! Yup. This is what happened with SW after Disney took over. All of a sudden the prequels didn’t seem so bad and fans were pining for the return of Lucas and beyond thrilled that Hayden was coming back to be in Kenobi as Anakin. You really begin to appreciate even lesser things when you see how bad they can truly be!
Still, that being said, I still stand by my last post. If this wasn’t a Halloween movie with ALL THIS HYPE attached to it and just a random horror flick, I wouldn’t have minded it. I kinda liked the vibes it was putting off in the first half there.
I have a feeling fans will come to appreciate this one after some time passes. I love that the franchise has such an intriguing and thought-provoking gem of an outlier in its crown. Overall, I’m satisfied with this trilogy. The franchise has certainly seen lower lows. I will definitely revisit these three films periodically. I plan on rewatching all three back-to-back over the weekend.
im a long loving halloween fan. and im not gonna lie, 70% of this movie was so stupid. they ruined allysons character for the most part (until the end). they humiliated michael with that god awful sewer plotpoint, corey being a copycat couldve been written SO much better, the kills were very underwhelming, and besides JLC, that acting was crap.
now, lets get into the positives for i did say it was 70% bad.
i love laurie in this movie, seldom disconnect from 1978’s laurie with the 2018 flair still there. I love the setting, i love the idea of corey, and i LOVE the ending. the needle drop was perfect. and the laurie suicide fake out was AWESOME.
theres my opinion for now, it might fluctuate with time but we’ll see!
I kept getting h3 vibes…is Michael Myers actually going to be the antagonist in this movie? Then boom, there he was. Antagonizing. For about 5 minutes.
It’s such a simple formula: Masked slasher kills annoying teenagers. If it’s not broke, don’t fix it.
I’m going to go against the grain and say I actually enjoyed this and I was convinced I wouldn’t! Around 90% of the plot had been spoiled for me but I think that was a good thing otherwise I probably would’ve hated it if that makes sense! I definitely think they were going for a Halloween 3: Season of the Witch approach and tried something different and I think it kind of works. I can totally get how people will hate this film and especially the character of Cory but I thought his story was interesting and I think you do feel bad for him before he flips, the opening scene is absolutely horrifying but not in a typical slasher sense which I thought was interesting.
Highlights were all the Michael Myers and copy cat Myers scenes and the Halloween montage, I think it was actually a good conclusion to this trilogy but definitely after this they need to move on and try another something else, maybe a continuation of the Danielle Harris films, a complete 1978 remake or just a brand new story with an original masked Michael Myers.
