This is a logical fallacy. Criticism is valid even if those criticizing don’t have the means to produce a product like that which they criticize. By your logic, you are not justified to praise something outside of your own ability to create.
There are objective standards of film production and these can be used to analyze and critically judge a film that does not meet them.
I never said all criticism is bad. Positive criticism, or constructive criticism, is very helpful. Unfortunately, there are too many, as I previously stated, that lack the tact to express themselves in a more eloquent manner when attempting to voice their displeasure. I’m referring to the vitriol that exists from many that think they could do it better.
Ive been waiting on someone to reply to what I said in this thread and its similar to what you said. It makes zero sense. 4 years to recover? Nah. But what Im scared of, is that synopsis is true since they filmed the dang movie under the mask of “cave dweller” Even so, none of the “leaks” make any sense. 2018 was great, Kill would have been great if not for MAH and Evil Dies Tonight, and now Michael just hangs out underground for 4 years? Im not in the least bit excited to see this movie anymore, but I have to see the trilogy through. This may wind up being just like the original movies and saying “didnt need one past 2018”
Not only that, the last we’ve seen of Myers, was him taking out the mob and killing Karen at the end of Kills. He seemed fine enough then. And if people try to say “oh it was the adrenaline” well he still had 4 years to recover lol. Makes no sense

I may have seen your message and kept in it my head, accidently hi-jacked it, sorry dude.
Yep, there’s just so many worries that scream legit reasons why we should be concerned because we’ve suffered the two previous movies… it’s not beyond these filmmakers to do something this daft. They have previous.
If they did this film RIGHT… that would be unexpected.
i’m still excited to see this film, I know i’ll enjoy it when I go see it ( I’m not gonna be a grumpy old man - “Bah. what am I doing here watching this? Oh yeah, I paid to come here and pay to see it… .bah!” I’m looking forward to it! I hope it’s flipping great! I have tempered expectations though, I KNOW I’m gonna love some of this film – of course, sure – there has to be SOMETHING great here. The music will be great, we will get some Myers, it’s gonna be fun. I will just go in braindead as possible, regardless what I know, and try to let the movie take me where it wants to.
i can “analyze” the movie at a later date. I will just be looking to have a fun time when I first watch it, I’m not gonna be sat there scrutinizing every shot
Not sure if you meant me, but I was only 10 when I first watched Halloween 4 and I thought it was great.
I’d seen the previous two and loved them. At that age, yeah, I brought it, I didn’t care - he’s bandaged up, he’s been in a coma, it all makes sense, it’s cool! It was new at the time.
If they pulled that baloney now, of course it would be seen as daft. It’s been done so we’re used to seeing it.
That’s the thing, H4 worked because H2 was forgotten (largely) that you could get away with things like that. No internet, no information about movies unless you saw it in a newspaper, magazine, TV, or such!
But now, as much as I love Halloween 4 for mainly nostalgic reasons, I’ve got so many problems and issues with it too. I can buy his recovery - sort of - but as soon as he he starts punching his thumb through the doctors head in the ambulance… I’m reminded it’s time to check out. This ain’t my Michael Myers. I love the movie, but it started with 4 where I was like " That’s more of a Jason move."
I do love the film though, it has so many problems, but it’s not bad… compared to what comes next. lol.
Bizarrely, I have less problems with him coming back in H20. I really enjoyed that movie and thought the lack of explanation, the lack of burns, was great. It was just… well, yeah… he’s Michael Myers.
My friend who I went with was like " yeah, but he’d be burnt, he…" I didn’t say anything, I just felt it was the right move. I still do. It’s unexplainable. Michael Myers just is. lol
Now it helps if I enjoy the movie. You can’t just use that “boogeyman shit” all the time, it has be done right. I felt they did it OK in some of the films, and sometimes, not so much. The filmmakers have to earn it.
My issue with these new ones is they’re so confuddled and confused at what Michael Myers they are using, I don’t think they even know. So we’ve got a great looking, great acting Michael Myers… and they don’t know what to do with him.
Oh, let’s put him in a sewer for four years.
What?
The explanation has to be better than “he’s doing a H4 coma”. He’s “sleeping with a perverted Hermit H5.” These explanations are comical now, you cant use them as a way of getting out of it. We’ve seen this before. You can’t homage that kinda crap and expect to get away with it.
Let’s build the last two movies up to be about how epic and grandiose this Michael Myers and Laurie Strode confrontation will be - as they promised - and then we’ll just… change course because " I had a better idea" - David Gordon Green.
I’ve a few drinks, sorry for rambling on.
Look, at least we’re not talking about a Rob Zombie Halloween 7 or something. It could be a million times worse.
The reason they don’t know what to do with Myers, is not only cause all the ideas have been done, but because they are terrible script writers and have to bring it into modern crapfest, there’s no tension, no scares, and no memorable characters, played by unknowns, except for Myers himself
I agree… yet disagree!
There’s loads to do with Halloween the season, and there’s a lot more you could get out of the original Michael Myers if they ever bothered to utilize his character.
He’s more than just a slasher, the sequels immortalized him but none of them have come close to capturing what he was in the OG.
Gotta say I don’t want to act like a spoilt baby here! We’ve had some Halloween movies, that’s more then our friends at Elm Street and Crystal Lake have had. For our little fixes, this has been amazing.
John Carpenter returning, the music, the films, JLC - love her or hate her - it’s been incredible.
I just want them to go out with respect! Don’t blow it on your last song, you know what I mean? Don’t exit on a bad note. It’s right there… you don’t have to go and do a “Jason Goes To Hell”. Just end it respectfully.
This is either going to go REALLY well, or REALLY Dogshit :
If the CoreyCunningham character works, that’s one thing. But we’re in the 3rd film of a “trilogy” and we’re now being presented w/ a new (main?) character, who we’re supposed to care about in some way or another. Either way, there’s potential for an Amazing 3rd act - imagine a slow build up to Halloween…quiet, unassuming evening/night…and all Hell breaks loose for one final(?) time.
Yes! i’m actually looking forward to the music more than the movie. It will also probably be the last contribution by John Carpenter in a Halloween film, which is cool and awesome but also quite saddening. This will be his last touch on the franchise.
At CinemaCon in late April, National Association of Theatre Owners chief John Fithian proclaimed that day-and-date releases are “dead as a serious business model, and piracy is what killed it.”
Personally, I couldn’t be more excited to watch this at home opening day. Watched '18 and Kills in theatres- '18 was pretty cool, crowd was pumped. But, watching Kills in the theatre after Covid was awful. Between the excitement of being out in public and people just not understanding some simple theatre etiquette, totally took from the movie experience. I totally get having fun and at a theatre, but after the anticipation and build up, it sucked to have so many distractions.
Definitely going to watch Ends at home. If I do go to a theatre, will probably be at 10am on a Tuesday
